nah see what happened is that camera is a digital 8 camera..well the head is trashed in it and it will no longer read/write to any tapes. This really sucks because all of my video stock is on HI8 tapes in digital 8 format because they are cheap and use DV avi format so here is a negligable loss of quality wehn transfering from the canon GL1. The camera itself still works and will send a signal out the S-video/composite/Firewire for the GL1 to record on its VTR. The camera mount was more than sturdy but the screw was not designed to suppor the weight of the camera and the shock..it ripped the bottom right out of the camera with the nut still on the bolt .. the internal nut in the camera for tripod mounts.

It's all good though as a 1/4" thick steel clamp is being made to prevent further accidents. I need to recover my video stock!!!

Almost make you sick just watching it. I like how you can see it get closer and closer to the ground.

Sounds like an idea...mount camera to front grill...hmmmm

That's some funny video, right there!

That's been one of my "to do" things for a while. Mount some closed circut cams in various places under the truck, run them to a pc inside. Trying to figure out where/how to mount a 14" lcd screen to the dash/console.

Why? Well, um, well, why not? Might make for some interesting video, saves having to stop, put the video camera on the ground, figure out the angle, drive over it (without crushing it), stopping, picking it up, etc.

And if you mount surveillance cameras on a turret, you could have them pan around from inside the truck!

Ran up Castle Creek with Mattman555 a couple weeks ago, and he mounted a webcam under his Pathy, with the USB cable just running thru the door to his laptop.

Worked pretty good for the first 1/4 mile, before the duct tape came off and it bounced along the trail.

Yep, duct tape. Hi-tech, ya know.

Big Grin

Next time it will be more securely mounted...

Regards,

-matt

I was wanting to get some cheapie composite cams mounted under there and run them incab to my video switcher..then into the GL1..

As for the 14" display I am going to just mount mine to the passenger dash with a swivel mount.

Yeah, something that big is a tough fit. Don't want to block the air vents, as the a/c is a pretty nice "luxury" (as mentioned in another thread), and don't want to block the passenger side air bag, since an air bag deploying through an LCD screen probably wouldn't be a pretty thing.

Might just ditch the glove box, since it's almost worthless anyways, and figure out something there.

Let me know how you progress, Mr. Mad Scientist.

OK truth be known to Swanky only... Norma didn't like holding the laptop while it was recording, so I had to stop everything, after crawling under the truck and hooking it up with duct tape, to have to tear it all out.

BTW - I have a buddy that can get all types of cameras, audio, and all types of electronics, at cost to me..

That's okay, we can try it again next time. I'll bring bungees next time, upgrade from duct tape.
