Kinda looks like it huh?

The ad was placed on the 23 of March, so I'm hoping its still there. Hell, $800 for a running, driving car in reasonable reliable shape, thats actually quite a deal. If it has AC, that'll be a bonus!

My first car was a 210, so having something like this will bring back some memories. Smile

I'll be picking this thing up for my girlfriend when she moves out here.. She likes it.. "Old cars rule", she says. And yellow funky 70s old cars are even better.

thats not even an L16.. its more than likely an A12 (1.2L), A14 (1.4L), or if it was the hotrod, an A15 (1.5L). These were pushrod 4 cylinder engines derived from the british Austin design (hence the A designation). Nissan actually made them extremely reliable though.. much better than the orignial Austin design. Very very simple engines though.. not much to go wrong with them.

They werent much on power though. The A14 made a whopping 60hp and about 40 ftlb of torque! lol The A15 made a monsterous 60hp and 60ftlb. lol. I think it might like a little nitrous.

The gf likes the idea of dropping a VG30 V6 into it (anyone seen the Monster garage drift car episode?.. same car!)

It'd be easier to swap in a KA24 or v6. Smile

A KA24 would double the hp output and would make it an absolute blast to drive. A VG30 V6 would make it a monster.. like my 510.

Speaking of V6 datsuns.. I took my 510 to the video store the other day.. I was pulling out into traffic from the parking lot, got it rolling in 1st gear.. went to 2nd and noticed a car fast approaching.. goosed it and accidentally got it sideways(!!!) hazing up both rear tires in the process... that car is pure insanity. Now I remember why I dont drive it very often.. Eek

Heres another bargain I found..

http://www.autoextra.com/vehicledetail/adid-12959584/do-basic

Needs a transmission, but is otherwise perfect. Smile I might call on this one today and put it in the backyard until I get get a new/used tranny for it.

That has the 3.0L v6 in it. Would be fun to commute in.

For $800, I couldnt go wrong.. I priced a rebuilt tranny.. $1200 + Core charge. I should be able to find one cheaper out of a wreck.

Just tryin to find a nice car for my gf to drive when she gets out here, so she wont have to buy one. I could use a decent commuter too in the time being since diesel is so expensive. Its up to $2.50/gal for me now. Costs $80 to fill up the truck every week. Eek

I figure I can always turn and sell it for more than I paid if I dont need it anymore too... or it might donate its engine to the pathfinder. Big Grin

That maxima would do good with a standard conversion, probably cheaper than the auto and last a lot long, too..

I called and left a message with the guy.. hopefully its not sold. Smile

This might also be a good opportunity for me to open up an auto tranny and figure it out.

There is another one for sale, an '89 Maxima, for $675 that needs minor work.

i guess it's easier than a 5 speed to fix. i have talked to many mechanics who fix auto trannies all the time and they wont touch a 5 speed.

you got some good deals on cars out there..

and hey with that maxima it doesent have reverse, so maybe it hasnt gone out completely yet. might be salvagable.

Yep.. cars are a dime a dozen out here.. best of all, there is absolutely no rust on them.

Trucks bring big bucks though. 4x4s bring even more. and 4x4 Diesel trucks are top dollar... $20k plus for anything 5-6 years old w/ 100k miles.

She wants the dime.. believe me. Smile

The VG30 just makes the 510s scary quick.. With all that torque, the backend wont stay on the ground and I find myself accidentally breaking the tires loose way too often... Just taking off from stop signs and lights is interesting if you let off the clutch a little too fast. I dont drive it much becaue of that.

The car does drift quite nicely now though. Smile 2nd and 3rd gear is unbelievable.. the engine pulls hard from idle all the way to 5500rpm in both gears. 1st is almost useless excet to get rolling.. then you just drop it into 2nd and hold on for dear life. Smile

My '72 has 39,000 original miles on the chassis.. documented from when it was new. I have the orignal numbers matching block in the backyard if I ever want to put it back in.
