Check this out... Got this for the house! Big Grin we just picked it up tonight for $200 from a guy down the street.. and it works great!! its a mid to late 60s Dr Pepper machine!

Oh, and it vends both full size bottles AND cans! Chug The pics are after cleaning it up best we could. It will require some new paint and new trim to make it look nice, but should be fairly easy to do. Super-Pimp 60s stylin!

Even came with a Dollar bill change machine, which we'll probably put on ebay if we dont find something fun to do with it.

The white paint behind the Dr Pepper light up logo is long gone.. I cleaned what was left of it off of there. I'll try to replicate it somehow so it will look right. This will be the kitchen night light. Big Grin smiley4

Yes, it vends BOTTLES *AND* CANS!! Has a nifty bottle opener that works great!

The buttons.. Need to print up some new labels for the buttons. What is funny is that the change mechanism has about $15-$20 in change in it!

Jove being pissed off at it:

The Dr Pepper stickers on the side:

How cool is that?? Big Grin It is going in my kitchen. I have to build a subframe w/ industrial rollers first though, so I can move it in the house.. it weighs nearly 500lb EMPTY. I will also have to make a plywood base for it as well so it wont crack my tile in the kitchen.

The thing is sweet. All 6 rows work, looks like it'll hold 50+ cans or 24ish bottles per rack. Definately a cool new toy.

Looks cool, but the what the dude that sold it to you didn't tell you is that it will cost another 200 per month to run that goliath. Talk about your non energy star compliant appliances. Big Grin

Its no worse than a fridge or deep freezer. :P It has the exact same compressor/refrigeration mechanism. Years ago, my roommate and I had a Pepsi machine and it really wasnt that expensive. They are very well insulated since they are made to work outdoors.

Orange.. they have an exceptionally nice late 80s Coke machine for sale for $400 too.

Not a problem.. I *am* an electrical engineer after all. Wink Really though, it doesnt pull much more current than a normal fridge. The compressor is the same.. but it has 2 small fans that operate all the time. The vending mechanisms are only powered up when activated by the coin mechanism (which I'll be bypassing with a button on the front of the machine)

Speaking of electrical engineering.. I am going to have to rewire the power system on it.. It needs a new power cord as the old one is mangled and jerry rigged to hell. I'm going to integrate a circuit breaker into it as well as converting the button lighting system over to 12 or 24 volt for safety reasons.

Wink QUOTE] Geez, I hear that all the time from peeps trying to invent something that Home Depot doesn't sell, usually from the wife "well, my husband is an electrical engineer, he knows everything..." Upon which I usually respond "great, I always wanted to drive those little trains too." or "oh, in that case, the first aid kits are in the tool crib." Big Grin

You know I am just having fun with you. It just cracks me up that people say they are electrical engineers, as if that meant they know a f'ing thing about electrical work. It's like saying your a doctor of devinity, and then operating on someone. Devil

lol.. AC Electrical design and field testing/startup work is what I do every day. 120v panel relay logic troubleshooting is something I do as well. smiley46 A coke machine is actually a much simplified but neato version of an interactive automated control system. Can you tell that I like this kinda stuff? Wink

I'm a leg up on this one though, as I already have the schematics for the thing. smiley4 At work I normally have to map the schematic out from scratch by tracing the wiring and then fix the panel logic so that the automation does what its supposed to do.

Thats another of my toys.. its a 1972 Datsun 510. The car has 39k original documented miles. The original engine was toasted by the previous owner, so I dropped in a 3L VG30 V6 w/ Borg Warner T5 tranny. Its very fast. It stays in the garage. I've taken a few of the guys here on the board for rides in it and they can vouch for it being quick. Smile The torque from the VG30 with a car that weighs nothing is incredible. It accelerates like a Corvette. It has a tendency to get sideways in 2nd gear especially.
