is the barrel shroud for anything other than looks and heat protection?

first things im going to order are a flashlight holder and side saddle. also im going to keep an eye out for a Knoxx Sidewinder.. it has a 10 round drum or a 6 round box. they were discontinued years ago but you can still find em.

I want to add a flashlight to mine, but don't know how/where to put it.

My mag tube is really short, so there isn't enough room on it for a flashlight mount.

Surefire makes a wicked-awesome foregrip that integrates one of their lights, but they go for well over $250 bux.

I was wondering if I could just attach it to the top of the barrel, but I am afraid it might get too hot...

Robin, go eat a twinkie, you fat bastage.

i like these. they are cheap and you can put your choice of light in it. also you can get pressure switches for the mini maglights that fit those holders for cheap. could buy the mount, light and pressure switch for proabably around 60$

Yeah, I was looking at those. But like I said, I can't fit anything like that on the mag tube... there just isn't room. Would somehting like that work on the barrel, or would it get too hot?

search google images for mossberg stuff. there is some SWEET guns on there.

alot of the long barrel guns i see use things like that clamp. and besides its a metal clamp and keeps the flashlight away from the barrel. i dont think it would be a prob. also if you were really worried about it getting too hot you could just take it off when your at the range playing rambo. just leave it on at home.

you could stick it off to the side too.

Greg. All the accesories on my Mossberg are from a company called Advanced Technology. Everything that I've installed from them was extremely easy to do. If you're looking for a place to put a flashlight, check this out:

http://www.atigunstocks.com/products.aspx?category=13&page=1&id=17

And here's the heat shield I have on my gun:

http://www.atigunstocks.com/products.aspx?category=13&page=1&id=55

If you order any heat shield, make sure when you install it that the screws on the end are down TIGHT, otherwise the damned thing slides down to the end of the barrell after a few shots.

Yeah, I saw that earlier... maybe I can put it on the rear pistol grip, seeing how I don't have a front one Wink

I may order a heat shield either this or next weekend.... but that is purely for bling status, haha.

i went and talked to a few gun nuts today. 1 shop wanted 360$ for the persuader which is normally in stores for under 300$. got out of there quick..

another shop that i like (army/navy store!) quoted me 299 for the same gun and also said like 530 for a XD-45acp tactical where the other shops i saw the gun at wanted 630$ for it! yikes! but they have to order it and i want it now! haha.

local shop has a TON of guns, like probably 30 different mossbergs on hand. good prices too. the cruiser 12 ga with 18.5 barrel is 330 cause it comes with some storage tube. but with the stupid cruiser handle its no longer a long gun and subject to the stupid waiting period. SO i think im going to go get this one, i cant find it on mossbergs site but its 12ga, 18.5 barrel, 5 shot tube and its the matte finish. it has a smooth foregrip and a full stock. 299$ on that one. guy says the matte finish is better because it holds more oil and will stay nicer longer between maintanance. looks cool too.

I'll be at the gun show this weekend hunting for an XD-40 or XD45. Found a bunch of the XD-40's and the last gun show for around $390. Might pick one up smiley17

Well lets face it, a normal 180lb human being would probably be in for a decent kick, but that same kick to someone your size probably felt like a fly landing. In fact, the impact was probably absorbed by fat waves Big Grin

Zing lol

I personally don't like the .40 as a round anyway. Go .45 Cool C'mon, 13+1 capacity of .45, you can't beat that with a stick!

What were the problems with the 40? Are they any problems with the 45? I'm just as much of a fan of .40 as I am of .45 so it doesn't really matter to me. Just want a good gun!

I got an XD40 back before they announced the .45. I'll get a XD45 some day to go with my 1911.

The only problem I know of with the .40 is the issue with the slide locking back before the mag is empty. The rounds on the left side of the stack can make contact with the portion of the slide lock that is supposed to make contact with the magazine follower after the last round is fired. Removing .025 inches from the slide stop fixes this. If you remove the slide and insert a loaded magazine, you can see the problem.

Wow, that's a weird problem. Doesn't seem to be too hard to fix.

head over to www.xdtalk.com if you havent yet and check out the forum for the xd40. i dont know of that was the prob with em or not, i just remember when i was doing research that it seems most complaints were about the xd-40. most people have zero probs with the xd45. i heard of the occasional loading probs when the gun is new and not broken in, but after a few boxes of ammo it smooths out.

if you dont care about 40 or 45 then totally go for a 45. the more stopping power the better. also ive been told by the gun nuts i talked to that the ACP rounds are the way to go.
