The main part of the Day 1 trail isnt bad, brush wise. Most of it is wide open high speed baja-style sand wash. Then we have a couple miles of fun mogully stuff with steep hill climbs and descents.

I have what looks like a giant bear claw on the side of my truck from the other day. We were on that little quad offshoot too though.

It will get scratched some but if you are careful it won't be that bad.

Meh.

Good point. It was that quad offshoot that had the nasty brush.

Never mind.

I like the idea of attaching some hedge trimmers to the front bumper and that person goes through first to cut a clear path for the rest of us.... Big Grin

Truth is, it will probably be scratched up by the time I get there. If there is something particularly nasty sticking out into a trail, I will typically lop it off for my sake and for others.

I expect a few scratches. That is why I went with such a durable paint.
[whine]Maybe I took it the wrong way, but it seems like some of y'all WANT to see nice things get torn up. That's just not my style. I turn torn-up stuff into nice stuff with the intention of keeping it that way as much as possible.
After busting my ass on this body & paint project for the past couple of months and through the holidays, I take it a bit personally when someone's first comment is how they look forward to seeing it gouged up. I'll get over it, though. Smokin [/whine]

I didn't say I looked forward to seeing it scratched up.

Just that it definately will be.

So be prepared to have your paint scratched when you wheel in Arizona.

Whiner lol torch

Meh.

Yeah, nobody said they looked forward to it; we're just stating the inevitability of it.

This is exactly the reason I'd never put that kind of effort into body and paint on a wheeling rig myself, but the truck does look great, and I'm a huge fan of well executed flames.

But if your truck looked like mine and you wanted to slap a coat of paint on it, and you had the materials and experience to do a really good job for little cost, you might consider it.

I was originally going to do the flames as a spoof, but as the work progressed, I decided to do the best job I could considering the truck's condition.

Even with scratches, this finish will look good going down the road. Now, I am proud instead of embarrassed. A few scratches won't change that. I knew what I was doing when I did it.

I'm with you Res... I like the Flames, and I want my truck to look good going down the road for as long as possible, even with a few scratches.

Here’s my thing on paint and a wheeler. If my truck was a off-road only rig I would care less about the paint job. Considering I drive my truck on the road every day I don’t want the paint to look like total a$$. I don’t mind scratches but I like the overall paint job to look good. My truck is getting to the point to where I will have to paint it within the next year.

There ya go Datz--the next project for the Pirate Ship is a front mounted brush hog! You could articulate it so it could clear brush vertically either side. Think of what you could do to a ricer with it!

and Mark--nice job on the rig. Hard to believe its the same truck that came to AZ last year.
