Here are a few photos from this weekend's endeavor:

I decided to rip out all the tile and carpet in the house and replace it with some nicer tile. Total square footage that is being put in is around 920 sqft.

Here is the new tile. It is made by Marazzi. It is a real nice 16" tile that I scored for about $1.40 a square foot. Big Grin I'm sure this stuff would be $5-6 per sqft if I hired someone to put it in.

Garage is full of tile stuff:

here is the demolition.. Rented a Hilti electric jackhammer and went to town. Had ALL the old tile and thinset removed in about 4 hours.

Poor kayla is not sure what to think. I had to keep moving the dogs out of the house, as despite the horrible noise, they kept coming back in. Frown

Niki's dad having a turn at the jackhammer. Jackhammers are fun.

Here is the 150-200 sqft we did last night. Decided to do a staggered layout to be a little different. I think its going to turn out REALLY nice!! The pictures dont really do it justice.

Ambitious!

I didn't have much help doing flooring myself, although J and DL did pitch in on some of the painting. I did some more painting this past weekend.

You ripping out the TV room carpet too?

I bet everything in your house has a nice coat of dust after the jackhammering.

Yep.. all except the carpet in the bedrooms is coming out. This will make cleaning up the dog drool easier. Wink We looked at the wood flooring, but decided that with the mastiff it wouldn't last too long. Tile should be pretty durable, and the darker color will hide a lot.

Yeah, everything is pretty dusty.. gonna take a few weeks to get the house cleaned back up again.

I like the staggered look. Much cooler than the standard layout IMO. It will make the rooms look bigger with those long lines... Wink

How are you cutting the tile? Do you have a scorer? I would recommend renting a wetsaw. Those kick ass. My dad bought one when we were tiling his entire house.

I have a wetsaw if you need to borrow it John. Let me know, I'll have to pick it up from the last guy that borrowed it Smile.

I'm borrowing Niki's dad's tile saw. Its a nice wet saw. I have a set of tools for making small cuts as well, so I should be covered.

The only other thing I might need is a rotozip or something like that to cut out tile in more intricate spots.

I've been able to make every funny cutout I need to (thats on the edge of a tile) by "notching" with a saw. Draw the outline of what you need, cut any square stuff you can. to make curves, make a number of parallel cuts, 1/4-3/8" apart, the tile will break pretty cleanly between the ends of the cuts.

I've got one of those too, but I'm not sure how well they'd cut tile. Do they make special blades for that purpose?

Yep, they do.. saw them at home depot. It is a special diamond bit for doing special cuts in tile. About $10 each.

OK, I'll keep that in mind as we start doing the edge peices.

Almost have the whole front room done as of last night. Just need to do all the edge cuts and get those set in.

Still a TON of tilework to do though. Its gonna take a few weeks I think.

Got almost the entire front room finished.. cut the edge peices for 3 walls and got them put down last night. Was up until almost 2am working on it. Also started going down the hallway. Takes a lot longer to tile than I thought, but its turning out really nice.

This weekend, we plan on getting the rest of the house tiled and at least the grouting in the front room done. Then it'll be on to trim.

Heres a couple of new photos... sorry for the quality. Took them with the camera on my phone.

I finally got the french doors installed between the kitchen and theater room. This will work really nicely to keep the light out when we're watching movies:

Looking from the front door of the house:

Here's what the tile looks like with grout. I have about 8-9 more tiles to put down in the whole house and it'll be done. Then on to drywall, trim, and painting!

Yeah, I stopped by John's the other day and really liked the staggered tile, despite all the dog slobber....
