Place a couple of grocery bags under each front tire. This makes the tires easy to move and keeps them from biting into the concrete or pavement. Skip this part if you’re on dirt. Attach a piece of string somewhere behind the rear tire on each side. I use the leaf spring hanger. Pull the strings forward to the front tires. The idea here is to use the string as a straight edge, and the rear tires as a reference point. Now loosen the tie rod adjustment bolts on both sides then sit down in front of the tire and get comfortable. Look down the line of the string and make sure it is touching both edges of the REAR tire. At the same time, you’ll be able to tell which way the front tire needs to be adjusted. Twisting the tie rod adjuster down will make the front of the tire go out. The trick is to do each side a little at a time. The steering wheel has a tendency to move so you’ll want to readjust it after each tweak. Finally, I always adjust the tires so they toe in on each side about 1/16†to 1/8â€. Good Luck!! |
