The desert scenery, rock formations, camping are great, lots of open space but the wheelin’ is not nearly as good as it once was. Frown

The park service has been making the trails easier so more have access or something: Rocks in Lower Coyote Cyn blasted, stacked out, Upper turkey grade paved, Calcite Mine graded, Jasper graded, etc. I was really disappointed last time I went. Most of truck haven is now off limits. There are still some fun places but its really limited now. Pinyon Mtn Dropoff and the Squeeze are about the only challenging sections still around, but basically just two obstacles. Ocotillo sand is better with a moto or quad than a truck for the most part.

Good for the desert scenery and some easy to moderate wheelin’ for the most part. For more challenging stuff Johnson Valley is definitely better.

For a mix of some green mountain scenery, lakes, fishing, and some of the best wheelin’ anywhere the Sierras are the tops in CA. Rubcion, Fordyce, and Dusy trails can’t be beat Big Grin That would be a triple crown run, throw in the hammers on the way for a epic run.

I would most likely attend a Anza / Ocotillo run. Know some off the path challenging rocky stream bed type sections that I could show a smaller group in the vicinity but it's too tight for more than a half dozen.

I agree,
But iwht nearly 50 rigs showing up i think ocotillo is going to work out just fine.

There is talk of a hammers run after the holidays.

if we do a west coast meet again next year i'd like to see it in calico.

Steve, this might be something to consider for this time. Stoddard is close enough to Calico for large group camping, and there would be much more to do for everybody, and some good stuff for us crawlers out there both in calico and in stoddard.

So I was trying to find this on a map, is this around Interstate 8 or off Hwy 78? How long to get to Mexicali for nightlife.

An RV park?

Confused Watcha talkin 'bout , Penski
OCO wells is a huge "RV park". It's a "motorhome city" some times of the year.

Ok, that RV park that's up much closer to the trail going to Anza and much closer to the comforts of Borrego(city).

Oco can get pretty windy at times. That park is up close to the front of the mts so less problems w/ wind.

And there's the state park visitor center that can be interesting-detailing the history of Anza-Borrego.

Depending on time constraints , some folks heading up the way to Anza( the town- not park) might want to head further up the road to get a view from 8700' Toro Pk. THe tailhead is about 10 miles( rough) east of Anza.

YOu can drive to w/i a mile or so of the peak. And Robin can vouch for the view from the top- you look down on ALL of the park. Hope for clear skies.

Here's a pretty good online map of the park.
map link of Anza-Borrego

OCotillo Wells is in the eastern/middle.
