Ok I'm planning on moving this summer back to the east coast. I'm looking for a software app that will allow me to put in way points and the like. I don't have a gps so I'm not concerned if it connects up to one. I just want to be able to avoid certain areas and pick my main roads that I want to travel on. It's gotta run on the laptop too. Linux or windows apps will suffice. I have both on my laptop. Thanks guys.

My Dell 4700 came with Microsoft Streets and Trips. It is part of a Microsoft Works Suite.
Easy to use and it allows you to tailor the time and fuel calculation to your driving style and vehicle performance. Very easy to add stops/layovers, etc.
It checks for the latest construction info online if you are connected. Lists local attractions, resteraunts, services, schools, churches, hospitals, you name it. It even lets you narrow your searches to "Pizza" for example.
Shows routes based on preferences like quickest, shortest, favor secondary roads or favor interstate highways. It allows you to zoom in very close.
Where are you going on the east coast? (If you don't mind me asking.)

It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

I have a 3 disc set of Mapsend Topo 3D you can have. It won't work with Windows XP, but should with everything else. I run XP so Mapsend sent me a different set after I bought this one.

I use Delorme Topo 5. On the colorado run Topo 5 actually had most of the trails we went on. There are many clubs that make trails in popular spots and you can download them and import them into the program.

Topo 5 also has a very nice routing system we use on the way to AZ.

That sounds like something I could use.

The upstate of SC. I still have people there and Greeley/Evans is getting way too big.

I checked on the Delorme Topo 5. It's $49.95. I'm adding it to my short-term wish list. Smile
