So, after months of having problems with my throat (this all started the week of AZ run when I was really sick), I went to an ENT doctor yesterday who said that my tonsils have gotta come out in a week or so.

Anyone else had this done as an adult? Reading up on it, it looks like i'm gonna be out of commission for 7-14 days after surgery.

At least I'll have some good meds the first week or so.

I'm thinking I should pick up an Xbox or something to keep me busy, since I'll be stuck inside for a week or more. Anyone looking to get rid of one?

The doc said the window for the operation is somewhere between the 7th through the 11th of August.

Also looks like Aflac will pay me for the operation, tonsil removal, time off work, etc.. so, that'll help some.

I had mine removed, but not as an adult... both my tonsils and adnoids (sp?) were removed.

Man, my throat hurt like hell for a few days. Sorry John. Hope it all works out.

X Box? Why not get a laptop with wireless internet access? You can play games on it as well.

grubby news man, but after the heal up time you'll likely feel a lot better. I hear ice cream is the key. At least it makes you feel good, but then so wouldn't beer!

Blame your dad for not hacking them out when you were a kid! I know I will if/when I have to have mine out.

I had mine taken out just before the Death Valley run but it was at my request. I left the hospital about 30 minutes after waking up. The only thing they gave me was percoset(sp). About the only thing I could drink was water and milk and everything tasted nasty. Icecream didn't tast right for months. I had a hard time sleeping through the night for the first few days after the operation. I didn't vomit once but came close many times.

I never had mine out yet. I remember when I was a kid(age wise)and my friends had them removed, it was a real sore throat for a few days but, as others mentioned, ice cream is the key.

Russ has an X-Box that he hasn't played in a while. Not sure what games he has. I'll check with him to see if you can borrow it. And worse case, you can rent the games. I got him the s-video out cable too for better resolution.

I'm on vacation starting tomorrow for a couple weeks. I'm going to be helping Christa move to Santa Anna and will stay there the rest of the week I leave for California this Saturday, so I'd have to get it to you before Friday afternoon.
