Yuck.

Joey has an Xbox, a PS2, and a game cube, I think...we can ask him tonight if one can be borrowed. Blockbuster has tons of games you can have out for a week.

Sore throat from hell is what I remember from when I was a little kid and had mine out.

Ice cream is good, but sherbet is better. I like Orange myself. Fewer calories too Big Grin

Hang in there....we live the closest to you, so if you need anything during that time, don't hesitate to ask.

gabe made me a great deal on his xbox, so that's covered. So, I'll have something to do while I'm stuck at home.

From what Ive read, having tonsils out as an adult is much much worse than as a kid. Recovery time will be around a week and a half to two weeks.

I'm looking forward to getting them out of there, as I have a feeling they've been causing some of my ailments over the last few years.

No, I still have mine.

Is it a foregone conclusion that you will follow through w/ this?

Only reason I ask is that, your going to an ENT w/ a throat problem, is just setting him up to perform his bread and butter. Yes, I'm a skeptic.

Of course he's going to suggest that they should come out. I suggest that the tonsilitis is a symptom of a deeper problem- and that removing them will only hinder the immune system.

Do you really want all that downtime associated w/ the surgery?

I'm curious if you'ld mind sharing what you have been doing over these few months to try and get rid of your throat issues. I understand that my post will probably go over like a wet blanket, so ,I understand if you wish to decline.

Had 2 rounds of steroids and a round of antibiotics along with the normal rest, vitamin C, etc. I've had lots of issues with flareups of my tonsils, usually several times a year, but typically they return to normal after a week or so.

So, the tonsils have gotta go. They are making me sick, tired, make it hard to swallow, and I stop breathing in my sleep because of them. Once an infection or bug has encapsulated itself inside your tonsil, you cant do much about it. This last bout has lasted over 2 months with no signs of improvement at all.

I'm not too worried about the recovery time. Work is paying me while I'm off.

My tonsils are broken and causing more problems than good.. so they are getting removed.
quote:

The tonsils and the adenoids are mostly composed of lymphoid tissue, which is found thoughout the gastointestinal tract and on the base of the tongue. Lymphoid tissue is composed of lymphocytes...which are mostly involved in antibody production. Since we generally consider antibody production to be a good thing, many studies have been performed to try to clarify the importance of the tonsils. There seems to be no adverse effect on the immune status or health of patients who have had them removed. Any noticable effect has generally been positive. It appears that the tonsils and adenoids were not "designed" to effectively handle the multitude of viral infections that occur in children in an urban population. Rather, the immune system, including the tonsils and adenoids, developed during a era where the child was rarely exposed to a large number of other people and the germs they carried. It may also be that these organs are relatively more important in dealing with certain types of infections, such as worms or other parasites, that are relatively uncommon in today's society. It is clear that in many cases, the tonsils and/or the adenoids become "dysfunctional" and are more of a liability than an asset.

A little bit isn't going to hurt anything. How do you think we solubilize the drugs in Lortab Elixir--it's a water/ethanol base.

Ok , what about tossing your toothbrush to prevent recurring infection, saltwater gargles and listerine, and, of course, dosing yourself w/ grapefruitseed extract (GSE)- that's all hindsight, at this point, though.

Your symptoms do sound serious, so by all means do what you have to do.

Welp, the tonsils are out! Everything went smoothly. WOke up in the hospital 2 hours after the surgery with a nasty crusty mouth. hehe

Surprisingly I can still talk, but I'm guessing that'll change in the next day or two as the general anesthesia starts to wear off.

For now, its lots of water, gatorade, and popcicles for me...

I'll be lurking around on the board for the next 2 weeks more than likely.
