All a "zoni" needs now is a good Stirling engine , a scrap( large) satellite dish, covered in reflective material, a few other things( money helps) and you can get off the grid Wink

The stirling engine has been around for a long time. I wasn't aware they had figured out how to make one big enough to actually produce power from it though.

Brent, there is a company here in phoenix dealing in Sterling engines. Two arrays are planned to be built out in So Cal with a combined output of 1,750 megawatts. Each unit puts out 25kW of output with a 40x40ft footprint. Pretty amazing.

And yes.. that is 1.75 gigawatts! Enough to send a Delorean back in time.

I'd love to have just one of these 25kW units. It'd be enough to power my house and 3-4 neighbor's houses.

The stirling array is quite amazing. The power % gained from solar is supposed to be way over panels.

Some folks are saying that PV arrays will produce same output for half the investment of that stirling array planned.

Efficiency of production is starting to go throught the roof. I think someone has even invented PV paint. Much less costly than traditional silicon wafer tech for PV.
