...brave the heat and drop the rear axle again to flip the shims to rotate my pinion up. I'm getting my jackstands and realize I'm tracking oil across the garage.

I had a large plastic container that I use for used oil that had one oil change worth in it....yeah...the bottom seam on the jug split.

What a %##%&ing mess. Lots of cat litter is down now, and all my blocks of wood in the garage are goobered in oil, along with the bottom of my popup bag.

I feel your pain- the first oil change on my Mitsubishi cab-over diesel, I left the old oil filter o-ring on the engine accidentally (ignorantly) and shot 12 quarts of black swill all over my shop floor, engine, and front of the cargo box when I started it. You would think fresh oil would be clearish, but not diesel apparently. What a friggin' mess.

That sucks, but if you call a film crew over maybe they could shoot another action scene from the "transporter".

I always just use a 6 gallon plastic gas can to keep my used oil in. You can keep several oil changes worth in it then it's easy to take it down to checker/autozone for recycling.

They're a lot more durable than the drain pans.

It wasn't a drain pan..it was an old kitty litter container that I've been using literally for years.

Finally gave up.

I use the jerry cans for a few years until they start getting old. Then conveniently after you dump them you're at a place where you can buy a new one Big Grin

I take my car in to get the oil changed. They do it faster AND cheaper than I can, and dispose of the mess.

With the truck, I change the oil and toss the used oil in a barrel in my parents' barn that we use to treat fence posts. Shhh...

Razz I don't change my oil but once a year - not much to dispose of.

I have 4 registered and driven vehicles.

I don't trust those jiffy lube places to do it, and I run synthetic blended oils - you never know what you're getting at those shops. Plus, I like the confidence knowing it was done right and that I got a new filter each time.

I have 5 registered and driven vehicles, plus I'm tearing into the beast on a regular basis. If I changed all the fluids in the K5 it would more than fill a 6 gallon can (not counting coolant).
8 qts of oil
10 qts of transmission fluid
8-10 qts of gear oil

3 gallons of water/coolant if you're counting Big Grin

A roomy of ours went to a quick lube place. Got serviced and prompltly after that the trans died...

Another guy I know found out the hard way that his drain plug was missing after an oil change. Cost him an engine.
