I will be going to anza borrego [san diego county] on sat/sun 26/27 (memorial weekend). anyone who wants to come is welcome.
some parts of the park are probably going to be crowded, but i intend to camp in a spot on the 1,000 sq. mile park that is not near anyone else.
i will be going down early saturday morning and leaving around noonish on sunday.
we can take a stretch break and head call at the visitors center marked on the map;
http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=33.258858~-11...8j4558zjj4_visitors% 20center%3F___&encType=1

there is alot in anza that is 2wd friendly (i am 2wd). anyone interested?

It shouldn't be that crowded, as all the fair weather folks will be gone due to the 100 degree heat.

Hawk Canyon onthe west side of Ocotillo WElls, north of 78, is secluded/sheltered and scenic.

ThEn again, so is the road into Split Mtn ,to the south of OW.

Then there's Pinyon mtn Road, which is a sandy wash road about 6 miles off of S2( roughly 5 miles south of SCissor's) that goes up to about 4000 feet, making for a coolish camp in a hot desert.

Be aware that CALTRANS has closed the road between SCissors Crossing and OW, as they are doing maintenance on a bridge along that route.

If you want to get to OW, it's best to just drive south from somehwere along the S22. Not advised unless you have a good map of the area.

Be prepared for soft sand, which isnot 2wd friendly unless you aired down in the 10PSI range or less.

HOpe you will take a source of air w/ you

good luck

How did it go , roastbeef?

We were there over July 4th weekend , a couple years back. Found a nice shady spot out of the way in western boundaries of Ocotillo wellls. It's one way to avoid the crowds.

yup, it stinks from the water being low and fish kills in the summer.

I'm 2wd( but locked in the rear) and have done FIshcreek. It's just sandy wash that can be negotiated even in a "one wheel" drive 2wd, provided you understand the word momentum, can air down to an effective minimum pressure so that your flotation doubles, and can drive sane so you don't blow a bead.

It goes in pretty far and back up into Pinyon Mtn Rd.. maybe you've hear of the
"dropoff" on that road. It makes it one-way
( from the west) for that section, as it is fairly steep in parts and very loose sand/gravel.

Truckhaven is definately more challenging that Fish creek wash, due to the numerous trails- some suited better to a quad than a truck, and numerous steep climbs/drops.

An 8' flag would be a good investment for that area.

Roasty, Have you sourced a 4wd trans/transfer yet?

yea got the tranny and the tcase squared away. crawler gears went in it last month. thanks to a few guys on the A/C board.
not installed yet though, we are going to string it up after the axle is under there and up in the air. that way we have more room to work after ditching the t-bars.
i have 14" king coilovers sitting in my room right now. waiting on the phone call to pick up my dynatrac 60.
can't wait to do truckhaven, i hear its sick! one of my co workers did truckhaven in his 07 ram 2500 cummins. thats a huge powerful truck! he had lots of fun stories.
i think that drop off is called "heart attack hill."

we drove to the salton sea from the calcite mines though four palms wash. great scenery in there, about 4" of soft sand, but nothing to worry about without airing down.
sank like a rock on the beach though.

Geez, you really need to get some quality parts for your SAS- don't be cheap Wink.

"heart Attack hill" is right, too.

When's the "grinder" party? I'd like to see how that thing goes together.

unfortunately, i didn't win the lottery. but i do have a sick job that pays well and an addiction to wheeling. only the best for the frontier! hehe. its almost embarrasing how much money is going into this truck, but i justify it because in the end it will cost less than if i bought a new $30K frontier, but it will be way more capable.
hopefully the axle goes under it in about a month.
