I'll continue editing this as we do preruns and sort this out a little better. Look for this to be finalized by year end, 2008.

Inclement weather - that's a real possibility, as we'll be doing some high elevation camping. Come prepared for hot and COLD!

Sunday 3/15 - Pre-camp, Table Mesa. Camp site TBD
Monday 3/16 - 8:30AM - Meet at Chevron station, I17 and Carefree Highway just north of Phoenix, exit 227. We'll leave there and head up to exit 236 - Table Mesa Road and head west (Agua Fria river level permitting) We'll pick a short trail for Day 1, as we have about 20 miles of table mesa road to run over to a jumping off place to run the next day's trail. Camp site TBD, but I have some ideas.

Tuesday 3/17 - Back Road to Crown King. This is a 38 mile trek through multiple vegetation zones as we gain altitude. Sights along the way included the Orabelle Ghost Town. We'll proceed past Crown King about 10 miles. Camp will be at the Desoto trailhead most likely.

Wednesday 3/18 - Senator Highway to Prescott. This is 2wd but extremely scenic. Go down to Prescott, resupply with ice/beer/gas as needed. Other exploration can be done in the area as well - whatever you want to do. Return to same camp site as Tuesday night.

Thursday 3/19 - Desoto Mine, fully loaded. This one will be a challenge, especially with a large group. This is a 4 rated trail with some gnarly hill climbs, deep ravines, and some off camber stuff. Camp site TBD but will be someplace near Cleator, AZ

Friday 3/20 - Turkey Creek. I've never run this one yet, but we'll prerun it this fall/winter. I believe this is a one way trail and we turn around and go out the way we came. Assuming we find a suitable campsite closeby, we can use the same campsite from Thursday night on Friday.

Saturday 3/21 - Break camp, back to town.

This will be the remotest AZ run so far, so bring all your spares, extra fuel, and your tools. Also be prepared for extremes in temperature and keep your fingers crossed that we don't get snowed out.

Hopefully...fingers-crossed, I can make it. Looks like another good one. I may have to build up a bit for Desoto.

nope, Table Mesa is a geological formation (a Mesa that is flat on top). Table Mesa camp will probably be 20 miles from nearest civilization.

GPS coordinates for the highway turnoff:
33°58'5.91"N 112° 7'37.54"W
Depending on campsite (if we use the same natural springs campsite we used for AZ III), we will probably be 10 offroad miles west of this spot.

This run is going to be VERY remote and with the wide altitude range, will test the endurance of everyone and their machines. Lower elevations (1500-2000ft) will be warm, upper elevations (7000+ft) will be cold.

FWIW, gasoline is available in Crown King, but is very expensive due to the difficulty in getting it there.

The Senator Highway leg on Wednesday is actually a very long overland trip. At best, plan on having about 2 hours in town, as its going to take most the day to run up to Prescott and then back.

This trip WILL require lots of spare fuel as we'll be covering a good distance. Bring at least 10-15 gallons extra. I know from experience that just the Crown King backroad and then the trip to Prescott via Senator Highway will take most of a tank.

Oh yeah, and a tent heater of some sort will be highly recommended for the high altitude camping.
