I second the motion.

Actually I had a greeat time( after I had some salt to get rid of the case of heat exhaustion I experienced.

A little salt, some throwing up, lots of cramping, a little screaming ,some stretching to handle the cramps, and some cool water over my head and back ,was all I needed(the vicodin did help some).
Having enough salt in your system is so key Big Grin when exercising in the heat. Stupid me, I forgot this basic tenet of physiology.

I felt much better hiking back out, than the hike in. Live and learn.

Everybody was great and this includes the majority of people we met down there.

It was cool Smile

Yep, thats in Arizona at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. That is Havasupai Falls, which is a day's hike down into the canyon. The only way to reach it is by hiking, mule, or by helicopter. There are no roads there.

Been there, seen it, will go back. Of all the Grand canyon trails, this one is one of the easiest trails to hike.

It's not an easy trail. We've been training for this hike since January - it still kicked my ass! It was 105 in the village the day we hiked in. 8 miles from the parking lot to the village in minimal shade and another 2 miles in 3-4inch deep sand to the campground. That stuff is not easy to hike in. Another 1/2 mile or so to our campsite. Spend a day recovering and exploring just to do it all again the other way.

I chose to ride the helicopter out of the village. The hike from camp to the village helped me to realize that was the best thing for me. The heat gets to be so bad and combine that with hiking hard - uphill - I didn't want to die or feel like complete crap today.

Was a great experience though! Will share our pictures when I have some time. Last night was shower and bed! Big Grin

I'll always live for the nights I can't remember and the friends I'll never forget!

Yeah, I wouldn't call it an easy hike either. The weather definitely can make or break the trip. On the way in, it almost broke it...damn, it was HOT.

Had clouds on the walk out though. Took just under 5 hours to get all the way out, and I wasn't walking so good when I got to the top. I'm stiff as hell today, but feel good that I made it.

The campground is gorgeous, however, I would have enjoyed it more with less people in there. The falls....all I can say is that the pics are beautiful, but do not do them justice. Sitting, dangling your feet over the 210 foot drop at Mooney falls was my 'moment'.

Of all the trails in the canyon that would be the easiest. 4000ft difference from the falls to the rim. In the future try late fall or early spring. I agree that those falls are breathtaking. I was lucky enought to of seen then befor the flood of 93. The tribe did a good job of bringing them back.

First of all Robert, how old were you when you hiked all the trails in the Grand Canyon? It's statements like the hike is easy that get a lot of peole down there in the shape some of our group were in. And it's nowhere near a 4000 foot drop.

It was mid 90's not 105. Maybe if you held your temp gauge in the sun... Eek

I think someone was having a good time getting Davienas goat, kinda like the story that the helicopter didn't fly out on Tuesdays. Sure made a lot of trips and flew in a lot of supplies for not being scheduled.......I'm sure they had a good laugh later. lol Anyway I'm glad it was available.

It was ten degrees above normal, certainly warm but nowhere near unbearable considering the nice cool water was right there at our feet.

If you put the work in before you go it is a much more enjoyable hike. Eight hours down the hill of course is much harder than three or four. Those people that walked that long are sure troopers, I know I wouldn't want to have to do it. It sucks stopping for someone all the time. I had to do that last year and I hated it.

That said it's NO EASY HIKE. We actually moved the hike back a few weeks from the last THREE YEARS to get a bit warmer weather.

I know I had a great time, I know some of the others that went had a great time too.

I'm glad Andy and J nutted it up and hiked out, they made great time and should be proud of themselves. J even passed a young girl on the switchbacks!

Jackie, Jasons 51 year old mom did fantastic! She had a great attitude and hiked out really fast.

I'm a bit sore but feel pretty good today, I'll post up some more pictures tonight, and burn all mine/J's on a CD for everyone.

Meh.
