Yes....thanks Marshall. I'm glad I got off my ass and did this. I think I'll start looking for other hikes to do around the state now. I'm not sure I'll do this one again next year, as I'd like to see something different each time, but we'll see.

Okay this is getting creepy.
My co-worker Steve actually has a picture of the dead tourist. He spoke with the Coconino Sheriff last night. She came there every year for her birthday all the way from Japan. She was wearing a orange/red shirt. In this picture you can see where I drew a red circle. If you blow it up in image viewer or soemthing you can see her face turned on it's side ( you can see the left side of her face, eye and hair. Then you can see her left arm bent back up towards her face and what we think is a foot below that. Wild. Meh. |

Damn, that's spooky. What's worse, we might have walked right by the person who did it for all we know.
I reckon so.... |

? All I see are some leaves ( of the tree hanging over inthe foreground)in the circle... That picture was taken near near the actual ( gulp) spot she was found, or where? ..................... She's there. If yo use a graphic program and blow it up, you can see her face, an arm and maybe a foot.
She was still in that same spot for four more days. Meh. |

Update:
Slain Canyon tourist was stabbed 29 times Association Press Jul. 6, 2006 12:50 PM FLAGSTAFF - A Japanese tourist who was found slain at the bottom of the Grand Canyon on May 13 was stabbed more than two dozen times, a coroner's report shows. Tomomi Hanamure, 34, of Tokyo, was visiting Havasupai alone and was last seen walking on a popular trail after checking in to the lodge at Supai on May 8. She apparently never slept in her room and a maid reported her missing the next day. Her body was found on May 13 floating in a pool below a waterfall. The coroner's report shows most of the 29 stab wounds Hanamure suffered were to her neck, head and torso, and several were by themselves fatal. Wounds on her hands and arms showed she tried to defend herself from her attacker, said the report by Dr. Lawrence Czarnecki, Coconino County's medical examiner. The killing is being investigated jointly by the FBI and the Coconino County Sheriff's Office. Terry Wade of the FBI's Flagstaff office said no arrests have been made but the investigation in ongoing. "We're following logical leads," said Wade, the supervisory special agent in Flagstaff. Hanamure's body was found fully clothed and there was no sign that she had been sexually assaulted, the autopsy report showed. She arrived in Los Angeles the first week of May, rented a car and went to several tourist spots before driving to Arizona, sheriff's officials have said. She left the car on the rim of the Grand Canyon on May 8 with most of her possessions inside, hiked down to the lodge and checked in. I'll always live for the nights I can't remember and the friends I'll never forget! |
