I've been thinking about getting an Enduro, since I like to ride in the dirt but I'm getting old enough that I don't recover as easy as I used to.I've had a YZ125,an Elsinore,a TT500,and a couple of KTMs.

After my hand gets better, I'll have to burrow my bro-in-laws yz490 or the cr650 and we can hit the trails...we usually go out towards the Verde via Paulden, its a fun run if you dont mind getting wet...I dont have a pic but add about 40-50 lbs to the one of you and thats about what I look like Wink.

I currently have three old machines and one ancient one:
'83 Yamaha XT200 (To entertain the kiddies)
'85 Yamaha IT200 (My former race bike)
'86 Maico (M-Star) 500XC (My toy)
'41? Villiars Jr. folding paratrooper bike. (Family heirloom.)

I rarely ride anymore, but I used to race enduro on the east coast. To show how old I am, I can recall Mike Lafferty being referred to as "little Mikey".

That was back in the days when his older brother Jack Jr. was a AA rider on a 250.

I used to spend a lot of time in the pits hanging around with Ed Hertfelder (Author of "The Duct Tapes") and Frank Soltner.

Maybe some of you older dirt bikers remember reading about them in various magazines during the 70's and 80's.

I ride a '96 DR350, great putt-putt bike. I'm not so much into racing, just go run around in the hills and have a good time. Unfortunately I don't have a pic yet but I'll share one when I get one

That name rings a bell.I used to race BMX professionally back in the 70s and had a neighbor who had a factory ride with Maico.I was a great BMX rider, but an average motocrosser.I eventually gave it all up,but now I'd like to get back in it.I'm hoping to find some jamoke who needs to pay his Christmas bills and wants to sell a decent Enduro cheap.

BTW Reserector,my buddy that got shot on his way back from Sturgis is recovering very well. He's walking, talking, and running his custom motorcycle shop in a limited capacity. Big Grin

For a guy who got shot in the head,he's doing amazingly well. His doctor says he should recover 90 to 100%.It caused alot of his friends to re-evaluate our lives and start living a little more and not to sweat the small stuff. Cool

I just got another bike about a year and half ago. This is me racing a year ago, new years, out here at speedworld. I haven't ridden about 6 months though.

And this is my brother, it was a team relay style race. On about a 7 mile desert/MX track.

This is Destry Abbott in the same race. His a big time offroad racer, sponsored by factory Kawi, super nice guy too. Needless to say his team won!! But they were disqualified because the guy he was running with helped build the track, so he "pre ran" it which is against the rules for that race.

Alright! Nice to see a few motos here. THose newer 450 bikes rock, what I would like is a cr500af from Service Honda. I'm a big cr500 fan, and love 2 smokes. I just got a kindney belt, bomber gloves, ebow, and knee guards from Fox racing. I am going to start riding some Az single track. Never did race mx, only bmx, but I got my first motocross bike in '76! It was an Indian 50 and here is my fav riding spot, Glamis

Got it running...
My bro-in-law bought a new crf450x because he was sick of this "old 2 stroke" so I took it over for a few houndred bucks. It still needs new fork seal, a few cosmetic things and the exhaust is just kinda hanging on but...she goes!! Might be running a bit rich but I just carry a few extra plugs. Wink Its all white or black I can't seem to get a nice brown plug with the needle and jets I have on hand so I'll keep trying and see what I can come up with. I recently found a new cylinder as this one is on its last bore. Luckly its fresh so it should be good for awhile. Im a pretty mellow rider and keeping this thing happy in the rev department has taking some getting used to. It does not like to putt-putt. I beleive it to be a 83 yz motor and frame with the it490 plastics on it.

You should be able to tell the year from the serial # on the head tube. Not much difference between the YZ and IT in the 490. I think it had a smaller carb, lighting coil, heavier flywheel and slightly shorter travel, among other minor differences. I can't remember if the gearing is different.

That looks so much like my '85 IT200 that I used to race. It patiently waits in the shed for me. Smile

Cool man, I suggest a 165 main jet for our elevation, and a fuel mix ratio of 32 to 1. And I also think you should use some Maxima Castor 927 pre mix oil, smells like 1976 all over again. Lets ride! Pm me when you wanna have some fun. Smile
