I was at RS getting some stuff and saw they had marked down the Sky Squadron to $14.99. I bought it, not expecting it to be real good but there's $15 worth of stuff in it.

It's actually really good. Totally worth it. I have a big electric Cessna 172 from CMI that flies great, but it's mostly held together with tape after all the "accidents" it's been in.

The Sky Squadron is harder to fly in a way. It goes where it wants and even a slight wind will send it off course. It weights almost nothing.

The only controls are motor speed and a small rudder which is useless for now. The rudder is controlled by an electromagnet instead of a servo to save weight.

Mine will not make right turns with the motor running but I have a plan for that. Actually it just turns left all the time. The rudder responds well when the motor is off. It's windy here today so I need to try it in calm weather.

The most impressive part is the Li-po battery which seems to last forever. The plane also charges up with a cable inside the remote. I didn't like the idea at first but the nimh batteries I'm using are holding up well. It takes about 15 minutes to recharge.

So, if you see this thing in RS, go ahead and get it. Wink

Here's some videos that I didn't make:

Sweet.. sounds similar to the little RC helicopter I got. Lots of fun to fly around the house.

I want to try one of those helicopters but they're always sold out locally. I must have instant gratification Wink

I read some reviews and most people say this plane sucks...

So I was flying this thing yesterday morning. There was no wind. It was perfect. The plane climbed up to about 50' and I was making a nice wide left over a football field. Then the wind came and stuck it in the top of a pine tree.

I spent the entire day throwing stuff at it. Then it rained a lot. I found some fishing line and tied it to a couple bearings rolling around in the floorboard and fished it out after a few more hours. Somehow it still works!

I almost doubled the weight of the plane with all the tape that holds it together. And it still flies...
