Mules work like this. You drop your stuff (duffle bag) at the top marked with your name. There will someone there to tag them. We should be in camp before they arrive at the bottom.

Going out, you have to have your bag at the begining of the campground by 7 a.m. The bags will beat us to the top.

I wouldn't put anything glass in there, they drive the mules pretty hard. I have had a six pack of beer but the hard stuff in a plastic flask works best. I mean, alcohol is illegal on the reservation and we should not bring it. Wink

There is a small little store and a bigger one in the village. They have lots of stuff. Water, soda, gatorade, red bull, food. Even some fruit if you are brave.

I'll post a must have list down the road, basic stuff. Water shoes, sunscreen, large hat, good shoes and socks, camelback or other. etc etc.

Mules are 150.00 round trip, carry four packs or bags. Split four ways it aint bad. They usually have us wait until a few weeks prior to reserve the mules.

Meh.

I would never think of bringing contraband onto the reservation Devil. I don't want to corrupt any indians... Hmm, I'm 1/32nd miami indian- maybe I shouldn't drink either- nah, everything in moderation.

WElpp, I volunteer to bring a 2burner camp stove/fuel.. Got a yen for pasta w/ a thick grass-fed "angus" beef meat sauce? The balance of fats in grass-fed beef is very healthy- compared to grain-fed,,,
Have had this backpacking. The trick is to brown the beef, drain- then dehydrate it on a cookie sheet n the oven(on warm) for a day or so-then vacuum pack. I might try dehydrating the sauce( after it's made) and reconstitute it to see how that works( before the trip).

On second thought, I'll just can up a bunch of sauce and bring it au'natural.

I really want to do this - I need to start walking though or else there's no way I'll live through it. Marshall - let me know your walking schedule, that'll motivate me to go if I know someone else will be there.

So, Andy and I are going to start hiking on Saturday - every saturday morning. Also, I read on their site they don't allow alcohol on the reservation - didn't know that.

We bring alcohol. Even brought a six pack year before last.

But whatever mixes the best with coke or gatorade works. Like rum or Jack.

Okay not this Sat but next for South Mountain.

More on this later........

Meh.

We did 4 miles last night. We're going to walk every night (if possible) and hike once a week. We'll be in shape or else!

Hey D, you have those stairs too. Just go up and down them a bunch.

If you walked four miles last night you can do Havasupai.

This should be a fun group.

You guys can make your reservations on the reservation anytime 1 928 448 2121.

Sunday night the 14th and Monday night the 15th of May.

He DR/Dl if you want me to go with you to Sportmans.......not that I love going there or anything.

Yeah, we might have to do a little shopping...will probably wait for bonus money in February to get day packs, new shoes, socks, etc.

We did the 4 miles last night in about 90 minutes (DL has short legs)...she was shuffling a bit at the end, but she made it.
