Once again I am looking for those of you who are interested in a trail ride in DeSoto National Forest, near Laurel, MS.
We just had one on 3/5/06. Click here to see the pictures.
I am scheduling the next trail ride for Sunday, April 23rd. That is the weekend between Easter and Talladega. As usual, we will meet at the Busy Bee truck stop at 9:00 AM . We will explore trails until lunch. We can eat on the trail. I'll bring MREs because I don't want to mess with actual cooking. Bring some drinks, but leave the beer at home. (We will be on public roads.) You can get supplies at Busy Bee before we head out, if there is anything you forgot. After lunch we'll hit another trail or two, then head out. I figure we will be out of the forest by 1:30 or 2:00.
If you would like to be included, reply to this post and let me know. When the date gets near, I will PM you with contact information and the latest trail conditions.

These trails are suitable for stock or lifted 4x4 Nissans (or other brands) with A/T tread or better. My truck is stock on 33" M/Ts and does just fine. The trails are somewhat challenging. There are logs. There is mud. There are deep ruts. There is water. But most of all there is alot of pristine forest scenery to enjoy and respect.
Hope to see you there

I would go if it was not an 8 hour drive. If you ever plan a 2 day run I'll be happy to join.

I actually plan on doing an overnighter. Once I have enough trail mapped out and I find out the particulars about camping, I will post it. I don't see that happening until the fall, though. I'll keep you posted.

Hey, y'all! We went trail hunting Sunday. I would rate trail conditions as "VERY GOOD". Here is the link to the pictures and commentary. (Click)
There were two sections that we had to pass up for lack of a winch. Not worth the risk. Found tons of good trail anyway without having to use the tough sections. It won't be long before I have enough for a two-day event. Wink

Who would be interested in a two-day run? It would be: (camping the night before), trail ride, camping, trail ride, (camping). You could show up just for the trail ride on either day (or both days) or stay and camp as it suits your schedule and travel requirements. If there is enough interest, I will work on developing this.
After the DeSoto trail ride on the 23rd of this month, I don't expect to do any planned rides until the fall.
A two day run will probably be in winter or spring, but I need to plan, organize and map it throughout the summer. Let me hear your thoughts.

Did some Easter prerunning. Here are the pictures from today. (Click) The roads are getting dusty. I hope we get a little rain just before the DeSoto trail ride on the 23rd.
Most of our course is mapped out. I will fill in with a few dead ends that I will choose based on the vehicles that turnout and the trail conditions. It is only a week away, now. This will be the last scheduled event that I will host for a few months or so, so don't miss out on this one.

Every man needs to go on a long journey while he is still young and strong. It builds character.

So you never had a long trip? lol smiley36 JK, my long trip was going to DC and lobbying AZ senators while I was in high school. They were trying to cut funding for vocational education programs and we put a stop to it, well us and the 10,000 other students from across the country who all visited the same week.
