My in laws are looking at the new Nissan Rouge...I have tried my best to sway them away from Nissan (I know that's sad) but they seem to really like the car. They have asked me if I have heard anything bad about the CVT that it uses. I know Nissan has been using it in the Murano since 2003 or so and aside from some early failures I have been unable to find anything too terrible about them. I know that Rouge uses the same 2.5 4 cyl I had in my 03 Altima so that seems ok, I am just completely at a loss on the whole CVT thing. Any info good or bad would be greatly appreciated.

here you go. I would tell them to wait till the bugs are out. Doesn't look good. Of course it may just be a rare problem, but maybe not.

I did read most of that before and it looks to be 2003-04 that are having the issue but them again those are the only years reaching the 75-85,ooo miles as of right now.

I think I might tell them if they are going to get the Rouge (or any other modern Nissan) don't leave the show room without at least a 100k warranty. Carlos Ghosn can kiss my a@@.

So your Quest is giving you problems? And it's under warranty? Please be a squeaky wheel....

Do tell us more.. I think Robin has one... and you do have 1800-NISSAN1 on your speed dial?

My wife and I are also looking at the Rogue. I was trying to buy something made in the states but we can't find anything comparable near the same price. I'm also a little skiddish since Nissan treated the Titan diff problms with litle care (IMO). We will probably end up with the Rogue as my wife is in love with it. Just waiting on Allstate to figure out what to do with our wrecked 3.

Been there done that...filed it away under "Never going to buy another Nissan built after 2000"...or at least not one built in the US.

Its a long story that centers around the brakes, then throw in trim flying off on the freeway, doors that rattle non stop and one that almost fell off Eek , exhaust parts (hangers and stuff) breaking and not being covered after 12k miles because they are a bolt on part(?)yet there is a SB and upgraded parts are specified, a fuel pump that went out at 20k and then again at 25K miles (it was covered) plastic headlights that are so hazy the light output is ridiculous, two cd players replaced, clunks and noises in the front end that are supposed to be a non issue but sound worse then my X with a 3 inch lift and a wore out Calmini idler arm, a tire monitoring system that no matter how many times they try to fix it never stays calibrated...ect ect.

To be fair the engine and trans (regular 4 speed auto) have been fine. The 3.5 is a great engine to have in a minivan with plenty of power to pass and climb. It feels like it has tons of room inside and that's great for traveling. It is a good looking vehicle (for a minivan) its just the rest of the dam thing is falling apart. I have just under 60k on it because I drive to Cali a lot but all of these issues have been happening since 6k miles. Its an 05.

No, I crashed my wife's car. Actually, some lady decided that running a stop sign, going around another car to cross 4 lanes of traffic was the thing to do.

T-boned her and spun our car completely around. I'm still a little sore.

bully for you robin...want to trade 05 for 05? smiley46

I do like the van its just been a huge head ache dealing with all the crap and no the Quest does not have the CVT.

I am going to try to steer them away from the rouge with CVT for a few more years...they are also looking at a Honda pilot, of which I know nothing having never owned a Honda car.

Sure, as long as my mechanic checks it out smiley31

There are definitley some cheap items on the van, but as far as the warranty bullshit, that might be a dealer trying to be an ass, did you try another dealer?

A Honda Pilot is a LOT bigger than a rougue.

A CRV would be a better comparison there.

Had a Nissan factory rep come out and talk to me they did up grade my warranty but then the exhaust crap happened and the great warranty was of no good to me go figure.

No lamb Nissan here in Prescott has been great even doing stuff that Nissan USA1 denied. I even had the BBB involved at one point for mitigation but gave it up because it all became too much to deal with taking my time to deal with them.
Bad luck I guess.

It's the Rogue, not Rouge ("red" in French).
