I found a 1981 Datsun 4x4 for sale a, running and cheap, but dont know much about that year. Can any one tell me what type it is 620,720? and does any one have a picture of what this year truck looks like, like to see what body style it should be. I have not seen it yet but he is asking 300 for it, might get him down to 200. Just curiosity on my part.

An '81 would be the 720 - kinda squarish looking. I think '81 was the first year for the Z24 engine....this one would have a carbuerator. The 620 was never imported as a 4x4, but there are some solid axle conversions running around there using CJ5 running gear.
720's got better steering than our trucks out of the box, and they're really light. Would make a good trail truck provided it runs reliably. 1998 Frontier 4x4 seriously built 2002 Xterra 4x4 still stock "Conjunction Junction, what's your Dysfunction?" |

Found a picture finally, yes would make a good trail truck, but also would make a good work truck so I can park the Frontier for Mods/Fab work
Going to go look at it as soon as I can get a hold of them. Not home right now Frankie Seifert MANC www.geocities.com/midwestallnissan Frontier_Cowboy@yahoo.com |

Yeah, rust isn't kind to those older import trucks.

wow been looking for parts for it, aftermarket wise and there is not much offered for anything before 1983.
Was looking for suspension and body lifts but can not find any. Even checked JC Whitney, no luck. Maybe not even worth looking at if there is not anything, aftermarket wise, offered for it. Frankie Seifert MANC www.geocities.com/midwestallnissan Frontier_Cowboy@yahoo.com |

There are a lot of things you can do to the 720. Just having one would be cool. If you want some advice browse this message board
http://www.nwde.org/Dattalk_toc.htm Of-course always, always keep watching and reading this message board (nissan 4 wheelers) also, body lifts can be made! http://www.netsnapshot.com/pcw/b?KEY=0&ACCOUNT=10698 [This message was edited by D.C. on 11-29-02 at 03:28 PM.] |

i imagine it would be easy to do an sas on it. lifting it then would be easy just a matter of what size leaf springs you want to go with....

Ok so I finally found this truck, after driving last night for an hour and a half, then ended up looking at it today.
Well what is funny it already has the body lifted, and guess what they used, HOCKEY PUCKS! 3 per mounting point at that. Drivers door is shot, closes but looks tweaked real bad. Runs good, it has the 4cyl and the best part, NO RUST. Has bridgestone duelers on it also. reverse gear is a trick to shift into but think that is because of body lift putting shifter shaft at a wierd angle. Steering box is a bit sloppy, but steering components are very tight, no slop in the CL, needs front end alignment for sure but all in all, still pretty tight steering for an old truck. well to much work to be had. I am going to pass up on it, if i had an extra 300 i would possibly consider it, maybe.
DC used hockey pucks for his lift, so I guess it is cool. I tried to locate a body lift for it online and no one offers one for anything prior to 1983, so hockey pucks are the only real way to go. Frankie Seifert MANC www.geocities.com/midwestallnissan Frontier_Cowboy@yahoo.com |

shh dont say SAS because Frontier Ladys cousin also asked if I wanted to buy his 4x4 Ford ($200.00) to wheel with and then I found that Datsun (asking $300.00), be to tempting! Them Ford axles just might work, and I am getting a line fed welder soon, also getting a cutting torch, SAS, hmmmm......., NO NO I WON'T DO IT!

Thanks all for your help and input but unless a miracle happens, money wise, not even going to fathom going any farther with this. Money is already ear marked for other stuff. But man I have found out so much today about this model truck on the Web and access to parts for an SAS would be so easy to come by around here.
Would even be a good around town work truck, but already have a beater Toyota car I would have to get rid of first. Frontier Lady would be happier if I did get a project truck to wheel with, instead of using my Frontier. But I have a lot lined up already for the Frontier, which is a good thing by the way. PRobably a good choice passing this one up. It sounds like I would not even now where to start.
Check this one out. http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/1/6/37503516.htm It is in Cali. I would love to have it. If I was still in Az. ... well....who knows. |

ya I thought same thing about passing it up. Would probably be a bit hard to find parts for it. I would rather have a later model, say 83 up, them years seem to be better when buying and searching for parts. I also would like to have a King cab for the extra gear storage space and family hauling, I have a girl friend and a daughter to haul around.
Who knows Frankie Seifert MANC www.geocities.com/midwestallnissan Frontier_Cowboy@yahoo.com |
