I everybody. Its actually been forever since i was on here (before i joined the Air Force to be exact- almost a year ago.)
Anyway, I have a 85 720 KC, 5sp, 4x4 with a z28 engine. Lately gas consumtion has gone up, and on occasion it backfire when letting off the gas. I was thinking the exhaust sensor(which is over a hundred bucks BTW) whats the best way to bypass this, or anything else for that matter. Any other mods that can get me anymore performance by tricking the computer?

good thing about the AF. truck is from PA but i'm in NE, that means no inspections of any kind- I can play. Let me know what you can come up with. Thanks everyone.

Could it be as simple as re-adjusting the idle richness and idle speed on the carb? That's the old Hitachi carb, right? How about just new spark plugs. If you're getting a bad ignition, you'll not have as much power and go through more fuel to get the same distance.
