Hey guys I am going to look at an '88 pathfinder today with 250K on it. Owner says it still runs but lacks some power up the CO moutain passes? I am wanting it for my Patrol build up, as I plan to keep the 1965 Patrol as Nissan as possible, minus Dana 44 up front. Really all I want is the rear axle, tranny, xcase, and engine if it has some life left in it.

The owner's best offer so far is scrap prices, but he wants some one to use it, I plan to drive it, sort of, just not in its original form Wink

Any ideas on what it is worth? I thought I could maybe drive it around the corner and run a quick compression test?

This is what it is going into

the seller is desperate and moving this weekend, I am just not certain if it is worth anything.

Thanks
Pete

For scrap, he's probably only going to get $300-400 out of it. Offer $500 and drive it home.

250k is a lot of miles and the engine is probably getting pretty tired. junkyard VGs could be found with less miles as an alternative if you're dead set on putting a VG in there. I'd consider a 4.3 chevy motor for more torque and HP...Source a used up S Blazer for those parts. They also have a driver drop front diff and Atlas cases can be mated to GM transmissions for true crawler options.

I'm going to agree with DR. The 4.3 is a awesome motor and stock came with a good tranny. S-10's also came with 4.3's and drive droop trannys.

There's also a atlas adapter in the works for a Nissan. Even then you'll be adding another 500-600 on top of the atlas.

Well it runs and cost me $250. I told him he has until Wed to sell it for more. Did not have the title today. I plan to bring it home, hide it from my wife and drive it for a while and decide for myself how bad it is. It has not been driven for a while. Looks like I will need to help the front brakes to get around town. Figure I can get out of it what I have in it anyways.

I got the '65 bare down to the frame today, so the project is officially under way. I really am excited about trying to keep it as Nissan as possible, mistake or not, to hell with Cheverolet, I am a Ford man! Cool

thanks for the help
many more questions to come I am sure!

Chevy, ford , it's the same to me.....

The only downfall to the VG30I is it's not powerful whats so ever. The VG30I is a much better engine. However for $250 I would not pass up the deal either. I say take it and run with it. You could easily sale a few parts off the truck and regain your $250.

I got my dist.and cap for my pathy off a ford
minivan they also run the VG30 s ass well so
if that motor don't run too good look up A
FORD WINDSTAR and u can have your FORDPRIDE
But keep it NISSAN!!!!!!!!ALSO consider the
VH45 Infinity V8 That is lighter than the VG
and fits in the same engine room space as the VG .Only about 4-5 "longer than the VG as well
