One of my buddies asked me at work today if I would help him scrap at his deceased parents' house. I said sure. I asked him what he was going to do with the old Toyota pickup he had sitting there, and he told me its mine if I want it.

He also told me I could have the Nissan minivan sitting there.

Now, If I remember right, this thing looked ALOT like a early 90's Mazda MPV, but it WAS a Nissan and it WAS 4WD.

Ive looked everywhere I could think of to find more info on it so I could research its drivetrain. I dont want to just scrap it if its got a decent motor, tranny, and t-case. Hell, I would rather put the drivetrain in a buggy or something. Im sure I can come up with something rather than crushing it.

Now, does anybody know what it is?

Sorry, I was working on my signature. Thats what that pic is.

Its been awhile since Ive participated here. I mostly started hanging out at RMP-O when Ian started it up, cause it was a mostly Patrol forum.

BUT now that all that is left of my Patrol is a body and frame, I figued I would prolly start hanging out over here more often...

If nobody chimes in with some knowledge soon, I will prolly go out there Friday to get a pic.

They made those boxy Stanzas in the early 90s that had AWD. Is that what it is? They look minivanish.

Wasn't there a axel or access or something like that back in the day.

edit I just checked the link skrill posted and found this...

"the second generation of the Prairie was called the Nissan Axxess when sold in North America. The vehicle sold for six years (1990–95) in Canada, and in 1990 only in the United States."

Nissan and Toyota both made 4wd vans in the mid 80's. very few of them made it to the states. Most were sold and still in use over seas. The original Nissan and Toyota mini vans were basically built on a truck frame. I bet it's based on a Nissan truck. Only difference is the engine is under the seat.

The Stanza wagon (2wd & 4wd) was around from 85 - 89, it was a boxy thing, also called "wally wagon" had a CA20E in it,
The Axxess (2wd & 4wd) was around from 89 - 94,
more rounded the Stanza W. This had a KA24E in it, some people swore by them, some swore at them and others just laughed! This concludes a brief history lesson for the day Smile

I forgot, they also had another van "Disney van"
but it was only a 2wd with over heating issues, Nissan bought most of them back and they went to the crusher.. it had a Z24I in it, would've liked a spare engine from one of those...

The Nissan van is a very good van whether 2 or 4 wheel drive. The 4wd activates by a pushbutton on the shifter. The Disney van is a Chevy Venture. It is actually caled a "Warner Brothers" edition. It has Bugs Bunny on the rear hatch and a flip down DVD entertainment center in it. My late brother-in-law had a Nissan 4wd van and took it to Colorado in a snow storm. It kept rolling as other vehicles were sliding all over the highway. Hope this is helpful.

I thought Nissan had fuel related problems with the vans. Thats why they bought them back and or quit making them.

The "van" was kind of "old school" with the engine between the front seats, they tried a few times to correct the cooling issues, but in the end they bought them back, I guess the best was the Axxess, as in appearance anyway, the Stanza W was pretty boxy, but some people just loved those things.. but I understand they were pretty good in the snow etc
