Ok I have a 1999 nissan frontier v6 with auto locking hubs. After the hub is removed there is a round white plastic ring with a spring around it.(looks kinda like the fixed cam assembly) The plastic is broken and the spring caved in on the plastic. It is screwing up my 4wd by grinding engaging, and disingaging. I spoke to nissan and they have no idea what I am talking about. The best the guy said he could do was sell me a $243.00 hub. Both sides are broken and I cant afford $500.00! Any ideas where I can buy this plastic piece? My haynes manual does not even show it in the parts breakdown. Nissan doesent even show a listing for the fixed cam assembly for any frontier or exterra. Please Help!
I have a pair of auto hubs for sale, but I don't see the plastic piece your talking about. What I have is the outer section after you take off the mounting bolts. Don't have the spring or the pieces that stay on the shaft. $50 + shipping for the pair.
Maybe someone else will chime in on the plastic piece your talking about.
Yeah I broke one of those too when I removed my hubs. Luckily I was able to hold it together with the other parts that go in front of it. Hub still works fine.
Thats a great deal for hubs and I would buy them in a second if they had the plastice piece with them. If the plastic piece isnt with the hubs and nissan does not sell it,then what should I do. Any ideas would be very helpfull.
Yes I agree george is the best. He beleives that it is sold with the hub and sold as a complete assembly. The problem is my frontier has 174,000 miles and I cant dump 500 bucks into it. I have been checking at salvage yards but am coming up with no luck. Even ebay has nothing. Im hoping somone from here will be able to help me out or point me in the right direction. Thanks for all the comments!
Now I am trying to remember where that plastic piece is. So when you pull out all the bolts and remove the Auto Hub, is the plastic piece that your looking for still screwed onto the spindle? Or is in inside the hub. I only remember removing somthing like 2 screws and removing some washer piece before I put on the manual hubs.
it is not screwed on. it sits on another piece that is held in with the snap ring. Im not sure if this plastic piece was once part of the hub or separate. Nissan does not know also. I have called 5 salvage yards and no one has a frontier. Im still lost.
I stopped at another nissan dealer to check to see if they had a hub in stock and they did. I was surprized that the plastic thing with the spring around IS included with the new hub,but it is not plastic anymore. It is now metal. Mabey nissan changed it over the years. I showed the dealer the part and he said you must buy the whole hub.....my search continues
Your problem is that someone (you?) attempted to remove some of the internals before removing the snap ring. The snap ring comes off BEFORE you remove anything after the outer shell. If you end up taking any of the internals apart, you're likely to end up with this, and it's damn near impossible to get it back together again.

Ok first thing the plastic piece is NOT held in with the snap ring. Even if it was and was forced off, the middle would be the part to snap, not the outer edge. Second the hubs work great it is the plastic spring piece that is snapped. The guy selling the hubs says it is NOT included with his hubs,if it was I would be buying them. The plastic became brittle over time and when it was removed by me (very gently) the pressure of the spring collasped the plastic.
