umm...all this should have been marked prior to tear down.

First step in removing the timing chain.

set No 1 piston at TDC on its compression stroke.

Last step is install distributor. Make sure that No 1 piston is set at TDC and that distributor rotor is set at NO 1 cylinder spark position.

Did you move the crank shaft any while the timing chain was off the cam gear? There's a warning in the book not to do so.

I would do the procedures listed get a timing light and start from scratch.

I posted exactly what the FSM stated.

I would match up the dizzy with the number 1 cylinder point on the cap and install it.

Do you know how to line up the oil pump? The manual does have a certain way it's suppose to be installed.

It shouldn't matter. They both fire simultaneously. Personally, I go with the outer set because it is easier to judge.

The oil pump drive gear is helical, so the rotor will turn a few degrees when you install it. Once you see which way it rotates and how much, you will get an idea which way to set it to anticipate that rotation.

It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

i just got done replacing the timing chain on my truck and at tdc on both the crankshaft and cylinder head the rotor should be facing the No. 1 spark plug on the intake side.
