Pretty straight forward. You pull the driveshaft and the safety ring off the end of the Tcase, and drill/tap the end of the output shaft to mount the flange. Then you need a new driveshaft.
Drilling that shaft, however, is difficult and requires the best drill bits money can buy. That steel is HARD! 1998 Frontier 4x4, 2002 Xterra 4x4, and Z28 street rocket Pass here and go on. You're on the road to heaven - Kerouac |

I didn't cut off the end as described in the instructions. I used a handfull of masonary bits and cutting fluid (not oil) to get a hole started through the hardened outer layer. After you are through that, the rest of the drilling and tapping is fairly ease. A body lift will make everything easier. I screwed up the tapping and ended up with a crooked hole. I've got another shaft and need to do it over again and swap them out, or buy the adapter and go with a 6 bolt t-case.

Well I was thinking I would drill the whole in the shaft and then drill a whole in the slip yoke and run a bolt thrugh it. Or drill the shaft, cut the slip yoke off the old shaft put it on a lath and face it so it is stright. Then machine a piece of round stock drill some wholes and weld it on. I need to take my drive shaft out and see, but I think it would work. And I would save $250.00

I'm building a Square shaft for the front and wnat to do the rear. I don't ever go over 30mph so I don't care if it is not balanced.

In the tool corral at home depot they sell the Bosch masonary bits. Buy the smallest they sell, and move up to the biggest needed. I suggest a very slow, very very slow drilling method and the good bits will peel that hard stuff away like nothing. And use cutting fluid for certain. I drilled at least a quarter inch in with the smallest bit first, then went to the next size. Just remember, very slow, and use cutting fluid(try to find Rapid Tap brand), it will keep the shaft from getting work hardened by heat, which will make you life a pain. I also suggest a cobalt tap, expensive, yes, worth it, yes. Tap a little, clean out the crud, then tap some more.

ohh, and don't bother cutting the end off the shaft, there is a dimple in the end that makes centering the drill much easier.

I will start this in a day or so. Thanks for the help. I will be making the adapter plate and facing the slip yoke Friday. I'll get some pictures up.
