I have an 86.5 Hardbody. It has the two-piece shaft, also. All three u-joints are the same part number.

I got mine at Advance Auto Parts (Kragen, Checker, etc. are the same. ) It was a $12 part.

If you disassemble the small shaft, mark the orientation of the yoke on the shaft for reassembly. If not, you will join the ranks that complain of "shudders upon acceleration".

They should be standard 1310 style u-joints. Use high quality replacements such as Spicer. As already mentioned, watch the orientation of the yoke and put everything back together they way it cam out otherwise it may not be balanced. If I had to replace any, I would replace all three at the same time.

example of 1310 u-joint Cheaper versions can be found at any auto parts store.

Thanks everyone, I got under the truck and checked the drive shaft again and I don't think the u-joint is bad, it must be some play in the tranny but not too much to worry about, now I know what the part number is though if I have to get u-joints..thanks

Nissan drive shafts have 1310 dana spicer u-joints. Spicer u-joints are pretty much lifetime joints for daily driven vehicles.

If you buy the cheap u-joint at the auto parts store you are just waisting your time and money. Yes they have lifetime warranty's but you'll be replacing the part again.

Here's a link with a good graph on spicer u-joints. Look at pg-10.

Yes as stated it's important to keep drive shafts in phase when your working on the joints. Basically all u-joints need to be doing the same thing. All u-joints should be aligned the same way.

A little play is normal in a drive shaft. A lot of play (½ turn) is not normal.

The play is probably in the carrier bearing.

Source a 2001+ king cab driveshaft and eliminate that all together with a single piece shaft.
