I recently aquired and fixed a 1985 Nissan 4X4 Pickup planning on puttin a lift & bigger tires on it. I have been told by the local shops that they cannot put a lift on nissan trucks earlier than 1986. What is the best way to improve the ground clearance? What is the larges size tire I can put on without a lift?

Thanks,
Randy

I believe you can still get a Superlift A-arm lift for a 720. It would be a 2.5-3" lift max, but should allow you to run 32's on the correct rims.

What I'm not certain of is where you can obtain these. I'd try Automotive Customizers at 4x4parts.com, or 954 970 9626.

1998 Frontier 4x4 seriously built
2002 Xterra 4x4 still stock

You should also be able to install a bodylift for another 2-3" lift or so. By itself, it wont help your ground clearance, but then you'll be able to run larger tires which will help. Bodylifts are usually around $100.

Thank You both very much!! I was able to look on line at the site You recommended and find both a suspension and body lift for very reasonable prices $90 & $230!! I have never installed a lift kit, but I am going to give it a shot!

Just remember to have the truck aligned once you install the new A arms and crank the torsions up.. that will put the alignment way outta whack.

If you take your time, read the directions get a couple of buddies over make a day of it....well, depends on how much of a lift(cause you might want to make a weekend of it.) If you do a body and sus. do the body lift first.

Most important thing is to have fun. It is a good challenge that can be completed! If you have any ?'s just ask.
