What are the thoughts on fitting 10.5" wide tire on a 6" wide rim?? It's not recommended but is it really unsafe. I can get a set of those rims with a healty backspacing for my steering, close to stock. They would be used mainly for wheeling but also see a fair amount of highway use.

Go for it Harry !
I get my 35x12.5's mounted on 7" wheels tomorrow. With a narrow wheel you can air down much more without the risk of popping a bead.
You bring'em for Italy ?

Hey Win!!

Good to see you on the boards again, been wondering where you've been!

I just mounted 33-12.50's on 7 inch rims and love them. The only consideration would be tire wear, but you can just air down a little and be good to go.

Best wishes, oh, I also fixed my steering problem with all heim. It works awesome.

Hey Harry! Long time no see man. Glad to see you here on the new board. I am going to try out the TK1 method for the steering to see how it works. I am running the steering killing 15x8s with only 3.75" of BS, with my 31s. So if it ends up working for me, it should work pretty well for yours too.

The only thing that sucks about mine is that my stupid tires rub even with the 3" suspension lift when it compresses. roll eyes

Hi Mark and Chris, thanks for the warm welcome guys. It's about time i fix my steering too, as long as Nissan is replacing my trashed centerlinks under warranty it's easy to swap them out every now and then but it get's boring. It's time for a more permanent upgrade. I will look into the available options after the Italy run, hopefully the steering will hold up big grin

hey win, good to see you again....

When I had my patrol, I had 35x12.5x15 on 15x7 rims. There was no problem in making it fit. Given that they were swampers, it was a bitch to get them balanced. Other than that, it does extremely well. The other folks are right about airing down; it handles 5 psi just fine....

GOT BOULDER??????????

Thanks,

Well, it looks like i'm mounting my muds on these tiny 15x6 and 5" backspacing rims tommorrow. Hopefully my steering will live a little longer with those rims.

I did forget to mention something.....

When I had my 2000 nissan 2wd truck, I had 31x10.5x15 goodyear mt/r on 15x6 (factory rims). I totally forgot about that....

Marshall.. no, you had the 30x9.5" tires on yours. The Patrol has 36"x12.5" on a 15x7" rim.

Go for it, Harry. You'll wear a little more in the center of the tire, but it's not unsafe. BTW, My SLR steering is holding up well. No more replacing CL's!

What do you think about the solution TK1 has come up with Andy?

Glad to see you back Harry!

I think the steering TK1 has is a major improvement over stock for a great price. I doubt it is as strong as Heims or SLR's setup, but those are way more money. It is worth a try since it would cost less to make that than get a new factory centerlink. If you still bend parts, you can still go to one of the other systems.

The worst thing about mine is the money I have into it. It is holding up well, but that will be a lot of money to swap out if I do a solid swap.

Sorry about being so off topic, I think the rims will work fine as a temporary fix to your steering woes. I like the more offset for the stability, but that stresses the suspension and steering more.

Joel, I hear ya' I've got a few bucks in mine too, around 600 or so by the time all the bugs were worked out. But it's bombproof.

I pretty much agree with Joel. What TK1 did is pretty much exactly what I had considered doing just before the SLR setup came out. It can't be beat for low cost, and it will be much more durable than the stock setup. The only vulnerability that I can see to it is that it puts a lot of static stress on the through bolt holding the CL to the idler. A shear mount could be fabbed in to alleviate this, but TK1 has been thrashing it around Utah for a few months now with no issues. That tells me it's a good improvement.
