I have a 1979 Datsun 620. I am not looking to make it 4x4 but, I would at least like the 2 wheels I have to be able to turn in a jam. If there were a rear end out there that would fit my truck reasonably well and still had a few parts lying around for it, what would it be?

Maybe an early model Toy axle (80-85)? You would have to remount (reweld) the perches to fit under your truck if they are different and then add the locker or limited lsip of your choice. Good luck. I'm going on the assumption you have a 6 on 5.5 lug pattern.

I think the old 620 4x4 conversions used toy axles.

No. They used CJ5 running gear typically.
