Here's the issue: Under load or high rpm's the clutch is slipping. I'm pretty sure that the main rear seal is leaking and I'll bet that the clutch is original (132K). So, it's time to replace.
Question 1: Where should I get a decent and resonably priced clutch. Are the aftermarkets as good as Nissan original? Question 2: What do I need? Should I just replace the plate or do I replace fork, bearing and all else? Question 3: What am I up against? I have replaced the clutch in my '87 with the z24 motor without probs. What am I looking at for with the v6? It seems that crossover exhaust might be an issue- can't remember how the z24 exhaust was setup. Is this a good time to replace the leaky donuts at the manifolds? Q4: Should/can you drop the tranny and t-case as one unit or split them individually? Q5: Any suggestions on the careful removal and replace of the rear seal? Keep in mind that this will take place on a garage floor without a lift. Thanks. 1990 Hardbody KC 4X4 V6 |

To answer a few of your questions...
A great place to buy a replacement clutch, is to click on the ABC banner at the top of this thread. They will ship to your door, and give wholesale prices on OEM parts... can't beat that deal with a stick. As far as what to replace - a full clutch kit will come with replacement pilot bushing, as well as throwout bearings. Unless you've damaged the fork, it is reusable. A clutch job is pretty straight forward. Just use your Haynes/Chilton manual, and go to town. It is easier to remove the tranny/tcase as a whole, but it is significantly heavier... there really isn't a reason to separate. I also recommend either buying a new flywheel and using your old one as a core, or machining your original flywheel while doing the clutch swap. That is about all I have to offer. Hope it helps. ----------------------------- My myspace page. TUPPERWARE!!!! "Never argue with an idiot, they will just drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience." |
