He joined the "I rolled my Frontier and I'm still driving it" club.

Here's his story:

quote:
Well I put my Fronty on its lid at Moab. I’d hoped to not advert this event on the internet, but somehow within 6 days of the event, JeffW got wind of it (huh?) so now I should go ahead and discuss it.

I met my buddy from Col Springs in Moab for our twice annual Moab exodus. He brought his Yota buggy thingy on 37s. My neighbor also came with us; he’s got a TJ with a lift, LSD, winch, and 33s. I brought my Fronty as my YJ buggy was still in pieces In my garage.

Our last trail of the weekend turned out to be Pritchett Canyon. It is a 5 rated trail but why not go for the Gold. I did tell the wifey I wouldn’t do anything ‘stupid’. Famous last words. We had no issues until we got to rocker knocker. The yota buggy wouldn’t climb it. I tried 3 times in the Fronty and almost made it the last time. I was feeling confident but not sure of the line to take. Some locals came be and made it look easy in their half buggy half Jeepy thingy. They offered to spot me up it. I wasn’t on the obstacle 5 seconds before this kid had me on my lid. Lessons learned, don’t let some joker you don’t know spot you up something you shouldn’t be on in the 1st place! (and buggy thingies do thingies trucks don’t!)

We winched it back over using 3 rigs; pulled the spark plugs, pumped out the oil (which subsequently soaked 3 of the dudes who were in the other group). We put the plugs back in and the Fronty ran great after that (well except for white smoke that lasted about 30 minutes). I refilled the power steering and put in ½ quart of engine oil and all was good. I’d brought enough fluids in my secret stash to take care of any contingency, including this one but to our surprise we didn’t need it.

My pal in the Yota buggy hauled ass off the trail as it was getting dusk and he had no lights. On the way back out my pal in the TJ busted his rear driveshaft. He didn’t have the parts to fix it so I towed his a$$ the rest of the way off the trail in the dark while he breathed my smoky white a$$ the whole way! J

My pal finally came back in looking for us while driving with a flashlight. We call ourselves the blind, the broke, and the branded.

So back in the campground I pounded out the drivers door so my window would roll up. And later I bought a mirror and bolted it on. I taped the broken tail light back on. I drove it home from Moab and I still commute 60 miles a day with no issues. Not a single piece of glass broke and my hood and doors open and close like new. There is a few dents in my roof, my hood is flatter, drivers fender is bad, door smashed, kingcab sheetmetal is perfect except on the roof, and I had to press out my bed back in shape with a harbor freight hydraulic bender. But I’m not complaining. People ask if I’m going to fix it, but why? This is what the truck is for and I’m going to keep it like this. I’ve laid it over on the passenger side in some El Paso sand dunes, and put it on the drivers side in 3+ feet of Colorado snow. What else could happen….

All I can say is wow nissans are really amazingly tough!

Bummer, glad everyone is ok. That is gonna happen alot more now that so many peeps are going sas. Fortuntely that was just a normal flop, if it did a multi roll over flip, then the thing would be thrashed. With all these sas jobs running around, I think Calmini or someone should make roll cages, although liability probly is why they don't.

DAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM! I'm glad he is o.k. and that the truck is still driveable. When I read the title I thought it was going to be he sold the Nissan and went back full time jeeper. As sick and twisted as it may seem, I want to see more pics. I'm so glad our malls are not that tough. Smile

nope, it is not a SAS but it will be in the next year or so, hes working on making a h233b front axle that using d44 outers and the pull out thirdmember... its going to be sick! too bad you dont live closer Jared, i cant wait to see that thing in action.... I will hopefully order a "NICE" non harbor freight tubing bender this month to get started on my exo...

yes, it is tall, those are 37s that are on it in the pictures but i normally run 38.5s but since Ky was such a long drive to make i didnt feel like trying to handle it on the freeway with some biasply tires that large...

Thanks for the kind words fellahs; N4W isn't 'butt' Pirate4x4 huh! haha

I think it has 'character' now; except that it gets more than a few dirty looks from the enviro libs around Utah.

Funny thing was the engine still runs fine upside down Big Grin

I thought i read in Peterson's 4x4 mag that when they flopped their yota the steering column broke. And my pal said yotas don't run upside down.

I'm not inclined to sell my Fronty and go jeep exclusive. Unless someone wants it real bad? Hmmm...cause the new 270 hp Frontier would look awesome SAS heh heh heh
