I was just over on XOC and found this post:

But then you all got hung up on little rocks and took body damage... tsk, tsk... big grin

Guess he's harrassing us a bit. That sheep was hoplessly hung up on the diffs...several times.

I picked my own line before I went and proceeded without a spotter and just grazed a rocker panel there. I was first through in our group, and the first to take that line. Not to discredit anybody, but I got through it easier than anyone. Seeing is believing and those there know better.

Besides, body damage looks good on Herculiner smile

The big rocker panel dent on the passenger side came elsewhere. With hindsight, I should have gone straight up the waterfall at that place.

Those rocks werent little either. The photos simply dont do the obstacles justice. Some of the rocks were the size of a truck. The smallest ones were around 1ft diameter, up to 5ft diameter in that one boulder field.. big boulders.

I'm glad I at least gave it a try and proved myself wrong in thinkin I couldnt get through it. Good spotters are invaluable. With that kinda situation and in a vehicle that isnt heavily modified (rock buggy, etc), its almost impossible to try to drive it yourself without spotting.

XOC, open invitation.. come out here sometime and we'll show you and your truck what we wheel through.. and then you can poke fun at our wheeling skills, knowing what we really do. wink

Andy,

If I remember right all the lifted trucks followed your line. Also, you cleaned it without a pause or stall. Guess you had to be there to know... wink

Not all rigs took damage from the rocks, I know John and I managed well on our homegrown sliders... cool

XOC, Kraemer said I'd like you and I believe him, so let's hit the trail. My money says we all will enjoy wheelin with each other and it will put a lot of issues to rest. No sarcasm intended here: I wish you were at the run this weekend, we all need to see what we are made of.

Yep, sliders is on the list for near future mods. I guess it's finally time. I usually do pretty good at not tagging my rockers and like the additional 3" of clearance I have under the rockers without them, but it's time...

MVM, I'm sure you and Ian will get along....I'm sure we'd all get along if we were actually on the trail rather than dealing with everyone's internet persona. Your Frontier at GOX will be cool. I'd consider going, but I can't get the time off then, and I don't think I'd be welcome anyway if I took my Frontier. While Ian deserves a lot of crap from me for his comments to my GF, I'll be the bigger person and let all the shit he's said in the past slide. I just thought his post was kinda funny. Talk about unqualified comments!

DR,

Here, here! Couldn't agree with you more. I saw that post on XOC and it made me chuckle.

Keep takin' the high road Andy, you're doing a good job.

###Edit here: Andy, I don't think I'm going to go to GOX. After talking with Kraemer this last weekend, it sounds like GONE is the event for me...open to all Nissan Enthusiasts and I've never been to MOAB plus it will give me a couple of months to get that locker, winch and heim steering installed. ######

GONE is something I just may make it to next year. Depends on what I break during the AZ run smile I would agree with you, especially since you just did that Colorado trip, as GOX is in that same area.

Lookin forward to it and hope you can make it up. GOX would be a blast but since I have to make each trip count, I'd like to do Moab and wheel with all Nissans.

Have you set a date on the AZ run yet? Man, I need to move.

Probably late February or so. Arizona is nice that time of year.

As for moving...SWANKy is always looking for more participation. wink

Perfect! That gives me a month or so to reload and head to Moab. Yeah, definatley going to make the AZ run along with Moab and the CaliRun 2. Should make for a good summer smile

A move is definatley on the table for the 5 year plan, kinda like the Taos, Albequerque, Santa Fe, Farmington areas. In the mean time Rosa tossed out getting an RV so she and the dogs could come and flattow the truck. Man, what a woman. cool

MUHAHAHAHHAHA! And the CARNAGE continues!!!

Check THIS out! Remember those guys in the cheby ZR2s that were having troubles getting up cleghorn? Well, I found their website.. and found their pics.

ALSO, they ended up attempting to run Willow Creek Jeep trail as well! Check out their pics. There's one of Richard's Pathy in there. Apparently, the ZR2 guys ended up having some *massive* breakage up on that first boulder field on Willow Creek Jeep Trail! One of them landed the truck right on the driveshaft (among other things) and just SHATTERED it. Crazy stuff. Check it out:

Crossing Deep Creek.. (they HAD to have run it after we did, or mabye they just turned around there when they broke)

This is pretty cool.. cardboard driveshaft:

quote:
We managed to drag the truck out, and left it at a undisclosed location. I will retrieve it shortly (have to get a trailer).

But I must correct my earlier statement, I have parts of my truck at home, well, it should be one part, but it isn't anymore.... [[Frown]]

He must have broken more than just the driveshaft:

quote:

The Z marked it's way back out....I hope I didn't leak too much into the creek [[Uh Oh]] ...

I don't know what it is going to cost...yet. By the time I am done (trailer rental, trailer wiring for my other truck, new parts, etc...) I am looking at 5 or 6 bills. Unless I use GM parts, then I am looking at closer to 1K. Could be worse. Being Sunday, I can't do much about it (other than retrieve the truck). I have to wait until Tomorrow to begin the parts search.

Ouch.. and we thought our trail breaks were bad!!!

quote:
On the bottom left, there was another breakage on saturday (some other group). Something in his steering came lose but before that, he just about rolled the truck when he bounced it up there! The steering problem was not big and they were rolling within 30 mins. Come to think of it, there was yet another breakage about an hour before when someone blew out a manual hub and we had to bypass them frown

Its fun to see the action from the other groups point of view

WOW! I've never seen a driveshaft do that before. Aluminum may not be such a good driveline material, eh? Nissans sit higher on the 4wd food chain than S-10's. That's for sure.

Great find John!
