I was really hoping you would go with the high pinion ford 9" from currie but these should work. Go 37" on the tires as the d60 pumpkin is about 1.5" lower then a ford 9". So much for the coil over shocks
Good luck on your buildup. Also weight your axles for us. I am curious if your unsprung weight will be greater then what is left of the nissan. ALAN ALAN |

Thanks Alan and Duerk,
Coils would have been sweet for sure, had my heart kinda set on them but also never anticipated 2 60's either. The leaf setup will be bulletproof and thinking of adding at least revolvers in the rear and a drop shackle in the front. I'll post some pics this weekend of the axles and take a weight measurement. They will be totally overkill but that's fine by me. Maybe next year a 400 hp small block and new tranny and transfercase. MVM ###################### Under Construction and Over Budget |

sounds like you got yourself a sweet deal. I had f/r dana 60 axles on my 75 chevy truck when I was younger, I could never break either axle as I was running over 400hp with 35x14.5x15's.
I am too suprise you didn't go with the d44/ford 9" of the clearance. I seen very wicked d44/9" that will holds up to 39's. I know those d60's will hold up well, just make sure you get pumpkin skid plate for it so when you do smack it, you wont hurt the pumpkin. GOT ANY BALLS?????????? |

Marshall,
I hear ya'. The nine inch is a SAWEET axle but the overall costs would have been too much for the budget. I priced the front 9 at 2 different places for a custom build and it would have ran about $4200 complete then would have had to add the rear gears and locker etc. Expensive. Soo, like Alan pointed out, go bigger tires to cover the difference in the pumpkin. A couple of my WheelOhio buddies running 37's and larger suggested taking the 60's for the long haul since they can handle the HP that will come down the road and the leafs will be more durable and cheaper. The full width and Rear Disc is anothe advantage too. I'm happy MVM ###################### Under Construction and Over Budget |

I have forgotton how expensive the ford 9" is. When I first had the patrol, I replace just the carrier alone in the ford 9" rear and it ran a grand.
Good luck on ur install..... GOT ANY BALLS?????????? |

OHHHHH DAMN Mark! WTF, how cool is that!
Freakin' 60's?? Definatley run the 37's Actually I think you got a pretty good deal. Those 60's are way expensive to get ahold of no matter what. That truggie is gonna be sooo bad ass! I can't wait to see it in AZ. ohhh, and I forgot to add, you may or may not need a brake master cylinder upgrade, but if you do Nasty Nissan passed on the tip that a mid 80's dodge truck is a really good replacement. The holes line up (they only need to be made a little bigger) and will give you more breaking force. |

Thanks Brian, really stoked about it all. Did find out though that the rear is a Sterling 10.25 instead of a 60. Gonna use it for now but might make a change down the road.
37-39 now knowing I've got a little more diff to clear now..hehehehe. No complaints. MVM ###################### Under Construction and Over Budget |

Heck, with those axles, you will NEED 39's to match my GC...

Damn Mark....one ton axles! Very heavy, but bulletproof. You gonna keep them full width? Have you looked into the cost of narrowing them about a foot? Would be nice to keep the truck street legal, and the narrower track allows it to fit better on trails...of course with 37's you can just roll over about anything....
On that SBC swap...If you end up with a 3.3l V6 without a home, well.....:D 1998 Frontier 4x4 seriously built 2002 Xterra 4x4 still stock "Conjunction Junction, what's your Dysfunction?" |

Andy,
Yeah, One tons. With Revolvers in the rear and a drop shackles on the front it should flex well and still be able to load my house on the bed too if needed.hehehe. It's gonna be street legal after TruggieBed V.2.0 is done and making tubular FlatFenders for the front end to cover the width. I'll be in AZ with bells on.. You can have first dibs on the engine right now, cause I can tell ya' it's coming out next year at this time. Along with the tranny and transfer case. The engine is yours until you don't want it. SoooooStoked! I've got my buddy at 4wheelparts rounding up all the stuff for the new swap like gears, lockers, tires, rims, etc. MVM ###################### Under Construction and Over Budget |

Dude, you gotta be just giddy. When's the last time you got a full night's sleep? I know anticipation of stuff like this makes one lay awake and think about how it'll all go together.
V6 Meany. I'm liking this idea. Wonder if I can find a 5 speed that'll bolt in. Would need engine mounts, ECU...pretty much everything. Got, what a job, but it'd be SO worth it in the end. John, Are ya feeling up to doing an engine swap one of these days? 1998 Frontier 4x4 seriously built 2002 Xterra 4x4 still stock "Conjunction Junction, what's your Dysfunction?" |
