Last weekend I went out to run a trail I was told was pretty intense, it was to say the least. Long story short, I made it all the way up the mountain, coming down was the hard part. There was an obstacle with three different lines to take, I came upon it and picked a bad line, I was too wide for the angle I took. so I had to back up a really steep hill. 4-low I hit reverse let go of the clutch and boom, I thought i blew up a hub, but I grenaded the front left u-joint. get through the obstacle, about 10 feet down the trail the whats left of the u-joint starts binding. i keep on driving because i have no other choise, when crash, I loose brakes and my clutch pedal is shaking like crazy. we come to a stop, i try to get out and my door won't open. stick my head out the window to see my wheel with the spindle, brake rotor and caliper all still atached. in took about 4 hours the next day to put it together enough to get to the trail head.

Here's what I don't get. The nuts would have had to come off those 3 remaining studs for the spindle to separate unless you shattered the spindle too.

Me thinks you ought to check the other side and see how well it's bolted together.

Random, but: You have the same aftermarket door mirror that I have on my Blazer. Took me a year and a half to find another one of those used.

I'm thinking that it obviously had some re-assembly issues from the last time it was worked on. Sucks. Glad to hear everything was OK and that no one got hurt. Reminds me of my recent power-steering box failure. I had just driven 5 hours on the freeway and the box decided to lock up in a driveway, hard right. Had it happened anywhere else I might be dead.

I got it down off the mountain last night, left work at 3 yesterday, i got home at 10:30... talk about a long day, up the mountain at 15 mph for 30 miles then down at 5 mph, not to mention loading and strapping it down by my self. its all good now, except for buying the new parts.

DR it doesn't show very well but all the studs are snapped, just some worse than others, when i get it on the lift this weekend i'll checl out both sides, see if i should order 2 of everything.

thats terrible to hear about the mirriors, if you noticed i don't have a passenger side, the frame broke when I hit a tree... I'll just deal with one i guess.
