Do any of you guys know if there are any common drive line issues on the hardbody? I have a 93 4x4 ext cab 4cyl with 115,000 miles. I just noticed a noise that sounds like gears to me. I will be checking fluid levels this eve but I dont know where to go from there. There are no vibration or lack of mileage or performance. The noise only occurs when the clutch is disengaged and the truck is under load.

Have you checked fluids in the tranny, Tcase, and rear diff? If you've never changed them, now is the time with that mileage.

I checked/changed all of the fluids last night. Unfortunatly I think I have the noise tracked down to the trans. I guess I'm just going to run it until it gets worse and start looking for anther trans.

Do you a whining sound from the trans when accelerating in 1st - 3rd gears? This is a common problem with the V6 5-speeds. There is a TSB from Nissan regarding this problem. Apparently the countershaft bearings are not being lubricated properly & eventually fail. Nissan's fix for this is to replace the transmission case with a revised case & replace the worn bearings & gears. The oil fill plug in the new case is positioned higher thereby increasing the oil capacity by about 1.5 qts.

With only 66,000 miles on my '95 Path, I don't want to rebuild the trans just yet, so I overfill mine with an extra 1.5 qts. by jacking up the side of the truck.

Thanks for the Info. I have a 4 cyl but the problem is exactly that a whine in gears 1-3. I will try overfilling to extend the life.

The problem I described is applicable only to the v6 transmissions. As far as I know, the 4-cyl transmissions don't generally have this problem. I would not suggest overfilling your trans unless you are sure that is the problem.

I wish I could help more.
