I just went to the dealership the other day and decided to pick up (pun not intended) some catalogs of the 4x4 vehicles sold (Patrol, Pathfinder, Pickup, Frontier, X-Trail, Patrol Ute). I decided to transcribe the specs on the catalog of the D21 Pickup (which is still sold where I live) here.

The D21 has suffered some minor changes this year to keep it up with the times. The front bumper is more streamlined (stubbier than the 1993-95 Pathys), and has clear signal lamps. It also has clear corners, and the tailamps are red with white hazards and backups. The rear bumper is also new. Both bumpers can be had in body color or chrome (no flat black appearance anymore). The inside has white faced guages. That's about it for the changes.

It's offered in standard cab 4x2 and 4x4, king cab 4x2 and 4x4, cab&chassis 4x2 and 4x4 and also crew cab 4x2 and 4x4. It has two gas engines (the base can only be paired with the manual while the other can be paired with either automatic or manual trannys), or a diesel (which can only be had with the manual).

The specs are as follows:

Engines:

KA24S:
4-cyl, in line, SOHC, Water-cooled; 89.0x96.0 boreXstroke; 2,389cc; 110hp/5600rpm; 18.8kg-m torque/5600rpm; compression ratio 8:6:1; Carburator, mechanical fuel pump

Manual 5 speed tranny gear ratios:
1st:3.592
2nd: 2.246
3rd: 1.145
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.821
Reverse: 3.657
final gear: 4.273

KA24E:
4-cyl, in line, SOHC, Water-cooled; 89.0x96.0 boreXstroke; 2,389cc; 134hp/5200rpm; 21.3 kg-m/3600rpm; compression ratio 8:6:1; ECCS, electronic fuel injection control

The manual tranny has the same gearing as the one before. The 4-speed automatic ratio are:
1st: 2.785
2nd: 1.545
3rd: 1.000
4th: 0.694
5th: -----
Reverse: 2.272
final gear: 4.111

TD27:
Diesel, 4cyl. in-line, OHV with QGS, Water-cooled; boreXstroke 96.0X92.0; 2,663cc, 85hp/4300rpm; 18.0kg-m/2200rpm; compression ratio 21:8:1; VE type injection pump with all speed control type governor

Manual 5 speed ratios:
1st: 3.985
2nd: 2.246
3rd: 1.415
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.821
Reverse: 3.657
Final Gear: 4.111

Suspension:
front: Independent, double-wishbone torsion bar type with telescopic shock absorbers
rear: Semi-elliptic leaf spring with telescopic shock absorbers

The only model available in my area is the 4x2 Crew Cab, TD27 model which stickers at $12,500 with air conditioning, manual everything, and vinyl bench seats front and back.

Hmmmmm, very interesting.

Is the bed on the crew cab that same design as the D21 in Mexico? (That would be like a 620/720 or OLD toyota pickup)

Give me a regular cab diesel, please. Actually, I'd prefer the 2.5 TDI you can get in Europe. 110 ponies out of a diesel ain't bad!

1998 Frontier 4x4 seriously built
2002 Xterra 4x4 still stock
