well i went up north for turkey day and they got four inches of the white stuff overnight, my auto-locking front hubs work when they want too... what i am asking is; i took my truck out of 4-wd, and ten minutes later i hear this grinding, then a slight thud from th front of my truck, it all went away without any problems, but was this noise the result of a sticking front crapped-out auto hub? they are getting replaced within the week, i am just wondering if i am gonna have to dive into a bigger project!

86.5 hardbody ext cab

Thats really the only thing it could be. Auto hub not disengaging properly..

Get the manuals on there and see how they do.
