Hi everyone, i recently bought a 1994 nissan pickup XE with the 2.4l and the auto transmission.

I have a couple of questions, im not having any problem with it yet for it only has 87k, but are the transmission pretty good in these trucks? My second questions is what is the gas mileage with the auto, i seem to get 60 miles to a 1/4 in normal driving.

Thanks for your time.
Bo

The trans are as good as the fluid in them.

Keep it fresh( 12-15K miles between drain/fills).

Changed the ATF yet? do it soon if not.

And if you're in the northern states, going to a synthetic ATF will greatly improve the cold weather performance( as well as the length of time you can go between drain/fills.

It's a must to change out the tranny fluid on a regularly basis. Only use the best. I use valvoline Maxlife. You let the fluid get dirty you jeopardize the tranny.

Gas mileage will be 18 in town and 22-24HW.

the autos are not as robust as the manual trannies. Weak Points to watch out for, Frame Rust, steering linkage, and timing belt.

weak point depends on what your opinion of a weak point is. Nissan trannys by no means are weak. When talking about auto trannys with any manufacture if you don’t change the fluid your going to kill the tranny.

Manual trannys are pretty much bullet proof. They only like gl-4 and sure don’t like people who do not know how to properly shift gears.

The 4cyl has a timing chain. I usually change them out at 300K. Water pump will wear out around 150K. The 2wd 4cyl is a long lived truck. Keep her turned up and she’ll run forever.

Cool thats good to know, this summer i need to por 15 the frame and the door seams. Ive been looking at the junkyard and it seems the frames like to go quickly up here. Eek Would drilling holes in the lower parts of the frame harm anything?

Should not harm anything. Don't drill in structural important places. Check the frame for factory drain holes. Keep them unclogged.

Loosen 2 bolts, remove the other 2, unplug turn signals and you are done. The average person can have it done in about 10 minutes.

I have an '89 Nissan Hardbody King Cab with a Chevy truck/Blazer 4" suspension lift and 3" body lift. It will soon have a TBI 350, SM-465 4 speed trans and 208 T-case rounded off with 39" tires.

The front chrome bumper is extremely easy to remove. I still have my old chrome bumper. Has a few dents. Front is not rusted. PM me if your interested in the bumper.

The best tranny fluid is valvoline dec/mec high millage. Cost about 3.50-80 a bottle. It's the best.

rear axle fluid any GL-4 or GL-5 80-90 will do. I use supper-tec from wall*mart. Yes I know I'm cheap.
