Like the codes. First. That will save you a lot of time pulling things off and checking them.

i talked to a mechanic and he says it seems to be the distributor. DO these go out a lot on hardbodies? He was saying that its rare when a coil goes out on nissans. Is there any true way to check if its the distributor, because I dont want to buy a $250 part and not be able to return it if it doesnt fix it? and i dont know how to check codes

Hey all,
wanted to give you an update. Changed a bunch of parts on my truck but still didn't run. Didn't do the distributor because didn't want to mess up the timing. So I took it in. They said that they distributor was bad and it burnt out the ignitor so that had to be replaced too. About $3K gone bye bye. Thanks for all the advice and help though. I really appreciate it.

Glad you solved your problem, dboy, but , can you please explain how you spent 3000$ "$3K " on basic maintenance items and a 250$ distributor? Confused

YOu should have an entire new engine for that amount.

GREAT...............now we got the truck back, the thing runs like crap. hella jerky, rpms jump from 300 to 2000. exhaust smells super rich. can barely drive it, and cant even accelerate. is this the timing due to the distributor change?

I'd blame it on the mechanic. Seriously, what shop gives you your truck back running like crap? Don't pay them until they fix it.

The Nissan dealership does it like that. Well, we already paid, but took it in again and they'll let us know what's going on. Arent mechanics supposed to do a test drive before they return it?

Don't leave there w/o paperwork/ service record for the additional visit.

And contact the dealership manager, politely letting him/her know of your dismay and your wish to find better service elsewhere.
I would be seeething w/ rage( inside) if I got my truck back in the condition you describe.

They are definately supposed to go for a test drive.

Did it act spastic right out of the service department lot?

I would ask to get "comped" for your time w/ a free rental car or something.

That happened to me, once, at Milo JOhnson's Auto Service( in Escondido). They do it all there. Been there forever and they stand behind there work.. Anyway, I had them replace a steering box on an older truck- I tried to drive away
( in the dark) and the headlight switch wouldn't turn on the HEADLIGHTS. It was closing time and they VOLUNTEERED to call Enterprise rentacar for me to provide me a free day on them.

It sucked that they didn't get it right the first time, but they jumped up quick to help me out.
It was fixed the next day, of course.

Well I got the truck back today. Turns out that the brand new distributor they put in was defective. I was pretty seething on the inside, but had to suck it up and get 'er done. Well, everything else aside, I am glad it is back and its time to go wheeling!
