Duals off of a 4-banger?

I just set mine up with header > 2 1/2" pipe > MagnaFlow (2 1/2" outlet) > Cherry Bomb glass pack (2 1/4" outlet) > 90º turn down.

No details on the MagnaFlow. I got it used from Wytecracka a year ago. I guess it's a magnaflow. Confused

I'll let you know how it does after a week or two. I just set it up, so I have no mileage data yet.

The muffler resides where the cat used to be.

The finished exhaust. The orange thing is a heat shield. (I will be mounting a water tank above it.)

It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

2.25" is plenty adequte for the 4 banger. Stock is 2". Open it up much more and you're scrificing the much needed low end torque. IMO, duals are pointless on a 4 banger.

10-4, i was thinking about 2.25 also. I know about the duals but there's something about waking up on a cold morning and blowing smoke out both sides....haha i know im retarded.

If you do that, use very small tubing then...like 1.5" on each side to maintain some back pressure.

since 1.5 tibe would look tarded on the outs, you could neck down after the muffler and then bring it back to whatever size you want, just to maintain some backpressure.

after fooling with the intake on my 4 cyl frontier, i wouldnt do anything to the intake or exhaust. opening the intake up made it loose ALL the low end and gave me the tiniest noticable improvement on the top end.

my v-6 5 speed though, i want it as open as possible(within reason)!

I took all the plactic piping off the intake and just have the K&N sitting on top. I didnt notice any loss of low end really but i did gain some up top around redline. Im gonna see what kind of prices i get on the exhaust, wouldnt down sizing hurt the performance some?

After driving mine 65 miles round trip to work and back today, I must say it did O.K. It sounds just slightly more muscular than stock, but is barely any louder. The fact that the outlet is four feet closer to the cab may be the reason for that.

It did not seem to run any differently. I will have to wait and see on mileage.

Keep in mind that the reason I changed my exhaust was to make it more compact. If you have read my thread "The Body Work Begins" you'll know that I gained room for a 33" spare tire and an under-bed water tank.

Trying to improve performance seems to be a waste of time and money. Like an old friend once told me; "You can put perfume on a pig, but it is still a pig".

maybe it was more noticeable on my frontier since its a 2wd and has more of highway gears, but it was very noticeable that down low i had nothing. like if i tried to get out in traffic i had to run the clutch out to move it. it gave me nothing off idle. but at the top it gained a little. not enough to loose the low end though.
i remember trying to spin the tires in the dirt when i had the intake open, i slipped the clutch a little and the motor just bogged down and almost stalled. normally it would have spun the good tire and made a mess.

the bigger pipe may give you more power but at the peak only. if your like the ricer boys that run the motors out to redline on every shift then thats fine, but i doubt you are.

its not permanent. try it out. if you find it sucks then change it again. or just cut off and plug 1 outlet.
