To test your starter do this.

1.take starter out of truck, if not already.
2. Put jumper cables on pos batter and on the starter copper STUD (on solenoid). Nothing should happen yet. This is normal.
3. Now put a jumper wire or screwdriver on copper stud and connect to 1/4 male connecter. It will spark and what should happen is starter gear pops out and spins.

If it only spins. the solenoid is bad.
if it pops but no spin its the starter motor.

You can test the starter motor also by connecting jumper cable to the nut with the thick wire going to starter motor. When this connection is made, starter will JUST spin.

Hope this makes sense. I had to troubleshoot mine last month on the trail. Mine ended up being a wiring issue.

Thanks guys. Well I hook up the jumper cables like you said and the gear came out and spun so it works. But now i dont know what can be the problem. Could it be the relay? Should i just run wire from both of those points to in side of the truck and use a switch, or is there a easey way to fix this?

There is a big blue relay near the battery on the inner fenderwell. These commonly where out. They are usually uder $20 new at a dealer.

You can bypass the relay to test it.

This relay is for the INTERLOCK switch. USed to prevent starting in gear.

Once you find that big relay. unplug the TWO connectors. Stick a piece of wire between the 2 female connecters on the BIG connector (not on the relay). This wire goes directly to the starter.

Now try turn the key. Warning this bypass's the interlock switch so the truck will try to start WITHOUT the clutch pressed. MAke sure the truck is not in gear.

I just did it on mine to test.

I noticed someone cut my relay open and cleaned the contacts. I guess I will toss this one and buy one new one.

Cool. Those relays are cheaper than a starter. Cool
