I have an 86 hardbody w/ the Z24i. I want to pull the motor & swap in a KA24DE from a 240 sx. Does anyone know if the transmission has the same bolt pattern or if I should be trying to locate a trannie w/ the motor as well.

I'm almost sure the KA24DE engine will not bolt on to your existing transmission.

Yea, I figured so. the main reason i post the question is that i want to keep 4cyl in the truck but i dont want the z24. i figure if i could bolt a ka24 without modifying the trannie at all it would be worth it, if i have to go through the trouble of adapting the bellhousing then i might as well get the full transmission while im at it. Speaking of bellhousings, is the bolt pattern that goes between the trans & housing the same on ka24 trans as well as z24. Where im going with this is i am mainly considering an sr20 swap and i am trying to see if i can adapt to my trans w/ a stock sr20 bellhousing, or if i need to try and locate full trans as well. i have been reading the threads and found that to swap ka24 to sr20, all you need to do is change bellhousing, would the same apply to z24 to sr20 swaps?

I just read on srswap.com that the 240sx ka24 trans bolts to the sr20 motor, so am i correct in assuming that ka24 truck trannies will bolt up as well? also does anyone have any further info on whether ka24's will bolt to a z24 trans? HH said probably not but it seems as though he's not 100% sure. any help is appreciated. thx

you can morph the two, the front of the new tranny and the rear of the old, to mount the sr20, there is a mini running around with this done i will try to find the writeup on the web peace
86.5 hardbody ext cab 3 in lift, 31in tires newer motor (89) 4wd coming to a mud pit near you !
Cool, so the bolt pattern connecting the trans to the bellhousing is the same on the ka's as it is on the z24? if so i should just be able to get a bellhousing of a 91 or newer 240sx or hardbody to adapt it to an sr, if so then i am looking good for my swap.
