Ok i'm thinking about putting a turbo on my truck and im curious as to where i could find a kit for this project im rounding up.
Or another way, could i use the exhaust manifold and intercoolers from a Z car and just get an aftermarket turbo?
Either way i need some advice and info Thnx

I would imagine you could use one for a 240sx or something if not you can always look into having a manifold made. Unless your building your motor for a turbo you wont be able to boost very high probly like 5-7 psi...

jimwolftechnology.com might have some stuff you can use

If he is thinking manifolds from a Z, I am willing to bet he has the V6. The manifolds from the Z will not work without major modification.

With a bodylift and some crazy tubework and some fenderwell modification, you might be able to do it.

What are you trying to do? What is your goal with this project?

ultimately my goal is to put a turbo on my truck for fun and have a little extra power

cause what i was thinkin is just buying a custom manifold for a aftermaket turbo
but i remembered that certain Z cars have turbo's and if im not mistaken they have the KA24 engine or close to it so i might be able to just use parts from them(providing im correct)

The turbo Z cars had either the L28 straight 6, the VG30det, or the VG30dett. None of these setups will work on your truck.

If you are running a ka24 engine, its gonna have to be a custom setup. There ARE a few turbo manifolds out there though. You will want to look for aftermarket turbo manifolds for the 240sx KA24 engine. These should come close to fitting, but you may need to reroute the steering column shaft for clearance.

As far as the intake goes, you'll need to come up with a plan for tubing, intercooler, etc, as there is no off the shelf parts to make it work and in a hardbody chassis there isnt a whole lot of room in the engine bay to work with.

ok, here is some info.

if you want to turbo your current engine I will be a totally ground up custom build. There are no kits made nor will there ever be a turbo kit for a d21 truck. People just don’t turbo hardbody trucks.

The easiest route for you is to pull a 240sxt engine out and swap it in your hardbody. You could also buy a SR20DET from ebay and dump her in. In theory it could be done. Hooking up the intercooler and all necessary components in a hardbody truck would not be a easy job.

If you want power your best bet is to pull your current engine and build her up. a v6 max will give you around 240hp. a 4cyl will give you around 410.

There was a guy on 4x4parts.com that dropped in a short block 350 in a short bed HB. I would go this route.

It wouldnt be hard to find somebody who is willing and able to build a complete turbo kit for you truck from scratch. I know a couple people in my area and around the US that specialize in things like this. I can imagine it'd be quite pricey though.

Also, i would recommend you stay away from ss auto chrome products. I've done a lot of turbo work and research in the honda scene and their products are not well revered. (just an fyi..)

So if i go the 350 shortblock route would the stock torsion bars hold up to the bigger engine
or would i need a different set?
cause i have a 350 short block just laying around my house so this is why im asking.
And since my truck is stick is there any special modifications i would have to do for the linkage to the clutch pedal if i put another tranny in?

Thanks for they FYI i appreciate it, from what i saw i wasnt to sure either but thanks for saving me the time of finding out the hard way!

Since when? how do you do your math? A comparably equipped v6 (assuming more cubes) will spank the 4 cyl any day of the week.

sorry, major typo. I meant 210 or the 4cyl and 240 for the v6. cams, computer, exhaust those are the numbers I would expect given a 10-/+ deference. The hardbody truck engine is not a major power monster.

Now i we were talking about the VG30DETT, that’s a whole different ball game. Capable of 495-600hp reliably.

In the end it’s all about money.
