First, and foremost, STEERING! Calmini currently has the best on the market. There has only been one case of a bent Idler arm bracket (and I think that was from a direct hit w/a rock), and few bushings wearing. But, even the most wron out Calmini steering, feels tighter than the newest stock setup, and even with mild wheeling, 33x12.5s will take out that stock center link before you could say Goodyear!

I'm taking a guess here but if your running 15" wheels you might consider going to 16" wheels. I would look at tires that are 285x75xR16 they are a taller tire, they are a true 33" and look great... Most tries rated 33x12.5 are only 31" tall. Just look at the tire specs and you'll see what I'm talking about...

Now, tires that run on 16" wheels do cost just a bit more but since your don't doing more then dirt trail you shouldn't be wearing a set out to quick.

I have 285x75x16's on my Xterra and like them. I don't know for sure how Xteror1 bent his idler arm bracket but it did take a direct hit on mine to bend it. I don't mean just running into a rock, I mean landing the front end of the truck right on top of a boulder on that sucker and bouncing backwards. It still works well enough to drive once we pried it back some. You'll want the steering upgrade.

You will most likely need to buy a set of new rims. The backspacing may not be correct on your current set and the tire might rub the frame when you turn very tight. I have a 3 inch suspension lift, and just got 33X12.5 and they rub like crazy.

3 inch susp. and body lift, 33's, other stuff.

if you don't wheel, you don't need steering. BUT, the first time you use 4wd, even just a little, your stock steering will be toast if you run 33's.

i ran 33" MTR's, and they are a full 33" tall, not sure where you get that a 33 is really only 31. they do get shorter when you load them, but not 2 inches, and any tire will do that.

the reason you rub with a 3" suspension lift is because it isn't really a suspension lift, it's an adjustment. the only way to fit 33's on an IFS d21 nissan is to combine a 3" BL with a SL or Poor Man's Lift.

no need to get a 16" rim, but you may need new rims because of the backspacing, at which point you may decide that 16's are better for you. but you don't need 16's to run a 33.

i run 265/75R16's with stock steering and i havent run into any problems yet. so i dont see how if i went with a 1 in taller tire how my steering would be toast the first time i put it into 4wd?

just going by what happened to me. with 33's, a stock CL lasted about 3 months. i pushed to 6 months, but it was way gone at that point. i know exactly when i hosed it too, one day trip wheeling and it steered like ass after that.

If they'll fit your HB, I've got a set of 4 spoke XTERRA wheels from my '01 SE. They're the OE 16" wheels. Some scratches (and whatnot), but I'll make you a great deal to get 'em out of my garage.

NOT MY TRUCK, but those are the wheel style-

I've been running 33s with only a 2.5” suspension lift with no problems at all. I did trim my old fenders because I thought I was going to have problems but after replacing one fender and testing it out off road I didn't have to trim at all Smile

My set up is 33x10.5x15 super swampers on 7" wide rimes with a 4" bs, 2.5" lift a new CL,idler arm & idler arm brace.
Two months later with some wheeling … no problems yet with the front end Smileand the steering is still tight. I would not be able to run a wide tire tho,I's get some rubbing for sure. But where I live these skinny tires rule!

I would love to upgrade to Calmini steering, however the price is a bit too much for me, plus shipping to Canada $$
