My truck came with 4 inch speakers from the factory, whats the biggest size that will BOLT in. I heard theres a plate that comes out and allows bigger speakers to mount. This is for the regular cab. Any speaker recommendations?

Thanks

I have 6 1/2" in the doors, had to make a notch at the bottom for the connectors so they didnt ground out the speaker ( about 1" wide 1/2" flap folded over).

what yr is your truck?

It's 6.5 out and in the doors 4". On my 6.5's I did not have to drill any new holes. The pioneer speakers I bought came with metal clips and screws you could use if your factory holes did not work.

The doors I put 5 1/4. This is when I learned 4" speakers go in the doors. I took out the plate and had to drill holes for the speakers. The max size you could fit in a door would be 6" or 6.5. The problem with a speaker that size is how much spacing you have inside the door for the magnet.

You can get 6" or 6.5" low profile speakers that clear the windows. As for holes lining up with factory, I used self tapping screws and make new ones.

I'm running Infinity speakers. Go to crutchfield.com for speaker specs.

Yes the 5 1/4 speakers are worth the upgrade. You'll enjoy the better sound quality.

Are you planning on swapping out the head unit?

When my antenna got torn off, my replacement didnt work with the stock stereo, so i had put in a nice JVC unit i got at walmart for $80. I put a cheap set of there Lightning audio speakers and the sound terrible. So im thinking about getting some 5 1/4 pioneers.

Ok, with a after market head unit you can go with a more powerful speaker.

I'm still using my stock radio and cd player. I went with the lowest power rated pioneers. I robbed the p/n from crutchfield and did a google shopping search. Got both front and rear speakers for around $40.00.

okay im not sure about the single cab, but i managed to fit a pair of 6"x9" 3way pioneers in my dual cab. they will sound much better and will allow alot more volume with a standard aftermaket headunit (usually 40watts RMS per channel).

i needed 2 cut a notch in the panel (to prevent grounding), cut the interior to accomadate the size and make up a couple of 3/4" spacers out of MDF and painted and rounded them so that the matched the speacker's protective grill. they now stick out just over 1". thats if u want to go to that much trouble and dont mind them sticking out a bit. i did both front doors in just over an hour.

There's no way those will fit in the king cab or single cab. In a single cab.

Good choice. I've got Alpine Type S 5.25s in the front and 6.5 Type Rs in rear with a 4x250 amp. Definately worth it
