I think there's a general rule that if you decrease you fully inflated tire height to 75%( by deflating) you double your tire footprint.

YOu also double your vulnerability if there's any rocks around, and you pay no mind to them.

POpping beads/blowouts can become a reality if you go to low and drive too fast.

BEeing able to get an unseated tire ,seated, and inflated makes the gig all the more easy. Having a full size spare is a nobrainer.

Or, you can just not mess w/ the air pressure and go for it. SHould be ok unless things get a little loose/steep/ you have a large load/ towing a trailer Wink.

Adding to the thought. Airing down a set of hot tires can be interesting the next morning if you are camping over on a very cool night. Flat is a four letter word if you ain't got air.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

4-bangers won't get much speed on sand. I've tried it on mine and just not enough HP.

But lowering your tire pressure is a great idea.

Glamis? Air down, and have a backup plan to get yourself unstuck.

Carry a compressor. Costco sells a good one for ~$50, little red job. I forget the brand.

Remember never to brake in sand.... I never get stuck in sand any more. Before I installed my lockers, every time I hit the beach I was pulled out.

If you throw on the brakes there's pretty much no way getting out. If you need to stop put the truck in neutral and use a rolling stop.

It's a very good idea to air down your tires. If you go slow and steady you should not get stuck. Definitely go with a bigger truck that can bail you out if need be.

That'd be the MASTERCRAFT "TSUNAMI"- great air source.

I've had my HB out in Glamis many a time. Air down to 10-12 psi. If you dont have a compressor to reair when you leave, there's one behind Glamis store. Be prepared tp wait in line though.

Your 4 banger will have a tough time but just stay on the gas and be sure to travel with another truck. Dont go too deep in the dunes with your truck. Stick to Olds and comp and you'll be fine. Look out for dui check points on sand highway and make sure you have a whip.

Got sand?

Bring some carpet strips, or flat boards, and a shovel, and if your looking for a vehicle upgrade/change, get some of these tires.

I use them on a beach here in texas that i shark fish from, and they get me through what others cant, even at recommended PSI.
